As we look ahead to Air Jordan releases in 2027, Jordan Brand continues to impress with older, original colorways returning. A classic we have seen people ask to return is the “Laney” Air Jordan 5, which will arrive at retailers again in Summer 2027. This pair is inspired by Michael Jordan’s High School, Emsley A. Laney, in North Carolina, using the same school colors.
Although the “Laney” Air Jordan 5 isn’t an original colorway, it’s an older retro that initially launched in 2000. It took some time, but it would eventually become a sought-after sneaker, with aftermarket prices fetching in the $300+ range. Those pairs are no longer wearable, and this is where the second retro would come into play. In 2013, Jordan Brand re-released the pair, and many people were excited about the drop. During that time frame, we saw a handful of classic Air Jordan 5s release.
In 2019, Jordan Brand launched a flipped colorway of the Air Jordan 5 “Laney.” Instead of White on the upper, it featured Varsity Royal.
As for the 2027 release, it will feature the same color blocking, while dressed in a White, Varsity Maize, Varsity Royal, and Black color scheme. However, like other retros, the brand has the color described as “White/Multi-Color-Multi-Color.” Highlighted with White leather on the upper, both Maize and Blue detailing run throughout, including the Jumpman branding, number 23 on the lateral side, tongue, and midsole. The Jumpman will return on the 2027 release, dipped in Black, while a mostly translucent rubber outsole completes the look.
