Runners Take to the Streets of Istanbul for Nike We Run 5k

Istanbul’s second We Run 5K race drew 6,000 runners to participate in a run down down iconic Bagdat Avenue on Oct. 7. The race was part of Nike’s global We Run race series.

The theme of this year’s race was “No Excuses.” Turkey’s first-ever gold medalist from the London games, Asli Cakir Alptekin (1500m, joined silver medalist Gamze Bulut (1500 m) to help inspire participants at the event.

Race day set-up included a Nike+ Running experience zone, lounge and relaxation area, and time screens for competitive runners at the finish line. Participants also had the opportunity to check their performance on the Nike+ Running Turkey Facebook page, which offered a detailed analysis of their run.

Nike hosted a cool-down session for runners at the finish, with entertainment by renowned entertainer Geveze and his rock band.

Nike will continue engage runners in Istanbul, offering training sessions with coaching tips, competitive challenges, and advice on everything runners need to get them to the next challenge
