Air Jordan 4

The Air Jordan 4 is Michael Jordanโ€™s fourth signature shoe and debuted in February 1989 during that yearโ€™s NBA All-Star Game in Houston. Upon its initial launch, a total of four colorways were available. This section will be updated with upcoming colorways, release dates, and history of the Jordan 4.

While each pair is considered an upgrade from the predecessor in terms of technology, the AJ IV uses elements from the AJ III, like a visible Air Max unit and large Nike Air branding on the heel. Some additions include netting on the panels and wing eyelets, making the pair lighter.

Air Jordan 4 History

Theย Jordan 4ย was the silhouette in the Air Jordan line with an over-molded mesh. This is because consumers would think the shoe was made cheaply. So Tinker dipped the mesh in soft plastic and blew air through it to clear the plastic in between.

When theย model was first released in 1989, people disliked the shoe. Over time, the model grew on people and was spotted in a few films, including “Do The Right Thing.” Another feature of the AJ IVs was the capability to lace them in 18 different patterns, allowing you to style them your way.

The overall personality of the Air Jordan 4 was saying, โ€œGet back to work.โ€ Michael Jordan was a father and husband for the first time, and since the Air Jordan III was such a luxurious model, MJ and Tinker wanted to return to the drawing board.

Air Jordan 4 Colorways

Designed by Tinker Hatfield, four colorways were initially launched, which are the “Bred,” aka “Black Cement,” “White Cement,” “Fire Red,” and “Military Blue.”

We saw the first retro colorway launch in 1999: the “White Cement” and “Black Cement” pairs. Jordan Brand launched several “LS” (Lifestyle) editions with a Jumpman on the heel. There hasnโ€™t been a shortage of Jordan 4 retros throughout the years, but in recent years, JB has tried to make the build close to the OG. Even when the original colorways returned, the brand added Nike Air branding. Here you will see the latest release dates, news, upcoming colorways, where to buy, and more.
