PaisaBoys was founded in Los Angeles by Mexican-American designers Joey Barba and Javier Bandera. For its first Nike sneaker, the brand chose a silhouette that already has a strong connection to Mexican-American culture. Paul Rodriguez was Nike SB’s first signature athlete and the first Latino skater to receive a signature Nike shoe.
The Nike SB P-Rod 1 receives a completely different look for the collaboration. Blue croc-textured material covers the toe box, while yellow snakeskin appears on the medial Swoosh. Red croc-textured panels are used on the medial side, with White and Blue materials appearing on the lateral side. Brown and Black ostrich-style leather wraps around the toe and heel, while the eyestays come in mismatched Red and Blue patent leather.
More color arrives through the heel tabs, which use Green Apple with contrasting Nike branding. The tongue features wide mesh construction with PaisaBoys and Nike SB branding. Silver lace dubraes are shaped like Western-style belt buckles and feature scorpion graphics, adding another connection to the inspiration behind the shoe.
Scorpions also appear underneath the sneaker. The outsole features glow-in-the-dark scorpion graphics that become visible in low-light conditions. A message reading “Every Paisa Is A Star” is also hidden behind the tongue, while additional PaisaBoys branding appears on the tongue and insoles.
