A interesting video provided by ESPN about Air Jordans called “The Sneaker That Changed It All”. In the video, you hear opinions from Spike Lee, Barack Obama, Tinker Hatfield, and Michael Jordan. The video is a couple minutes, but a good one to watch. Enjoy.

  1. Funny how ppl r so quick to post frivolous comments just to make 1st comment. Anyway, this video was one of the better vids that Ive seen on this site. I like that the Air Jordans were referenced to the Beatles of Sneakers b/c that is about right. AJs changed the whole shoe game!

Interesting comment from Obama, too. Books vs. Shoes.

    Overall, worth watching.

  2. ^^co-sign this is great coverage, and a good recap of Air Jordans in general ……..

I enjoyed it, and is a great explanation for those who may not see the reason why the shoes are so popular not only now, but back then as well ………

  3. I understand asking everyone except Barack Obama… why would you aks him? Maybe they should have asked Hillary Clinton?

  4. ^^^^^^

Barack Obama is an allegory for social, political change in the states. He could be likened to the Michael Jordan of the political arena, in that his running to be the democratic candidate is a historical first and would no doubt change the US political landscape just like Mike and his sneakers forever changed basketball and the sneaker industry.

On a further note, this clip is looking at the socio-economic impacts of air jordans, whose influence reached out to all demographics, whether it be celebs or the gangbangers. Barack's inclusion in the clip is not only interesting but also goes to show how influential and synonymous air jordans have become in today's culture.

  5. Socio-economics is what what Jordan runs from. In all honesty, for someone that is now 25-30 and claims they have a large collection of Jordans, you wonder how exactly they could afford them. Especially a minority in a big city. I live in DC and come from the infamous Southeast side. When i was in Junior High and the XIs came out, a kid was jumped and shot, not killed, and ofcourse his shoe were taken. They tried to spin the story as if he were a trouble maker and was in fights all the time, but the truth was the XIs were the hottest thing we had ever seen and some would actually kill for them. That footlocker later on that yr closed because the owner didnt want to support Jordan anymore.

Extreme? maybe so, but even when Jordan himself was in DC for several yr 4UCKING up the wizards, they asked him about the incident and he said he didnt care on a local news station.

I'm not attacking Jordan cause i still buy the shoes if i like them, but i don't think he's yet to sit down and think about the impact of his LEGEND on the kids who live in poverty.

Lastly Chris Webber, former Bullet, left Nike after a similar incident happened when he was in teh city after his 2nd signature shoe. When he show more compassion and respect for the kid and not the contract, DC treated him like royalty. Named a ply ground/gym after him, started a camp, and made a 6 story billboard of his likeness.

  6. great video…

i dont see how you could blame a player for folk gettin killed over a pair of his kicks….what is he suppose to do?? sure what webber did was a stand up thing to do…but if jordan did something like that he would actually be lettin down the youth across the country by take'n his product off the market.

i especially enjoyed the end with the players talkin about their jays n shit.
