Jordan Brand will continue its strong resurgence of classic pairs in Spring 2026, as the “He Got Game” Air Jordan 13 is returning. The sneakers were originally released in 1997 and worn by Michael Jordan during the 1997-98 NBA season. Furthermore, the pair was featured in the Spike Lee film, “He Got Game.”
Air Jordan 13 He Got Game History
The “He Got Game” Jordan 13 has been released four times, with the fifth arriving in 2026. The first time we saw the shoe debut was in 1997, and it is an original colorway. We would see the first retro release occur in 2008. For this release, Jordan Brand packaged the shoes with the Air Jordan 10 and was part of the Countdown Pack series. The two shoes equaled the number 23, celebrating the release of the Jordan XX3. The next retro would launch in 2013, but this time by itself. The last time we saw this iconic pair land at retailers was in 2018.
Jordan Brand would also launch the “Reverse He Got Game” Air Jordan 13 in 2020. Furthermore, we would see other silhouettes use the theme. For example, in 2021, we saw the Jordan 6 Rings release in the same theme, and the brand would launch the Jordan 1 Mid ’97 in the “He Got Game” color blocking.
How The He Got Game Got Its Nickname
Before this pair received its nickname, the shoes were known as simply White and Black. However, it wasn’t until the mid-2000s the shoes would adopt the “He Got Game” moniker. As most know, the shoes were featured in the Spike Lee film, “He Got Game,” starring Denzel Washington and Ray Allen.
Denzel Washington played the character Jake Shuttlesworth, who was serving a prison term but was let out on a week-long parole to convince his son, Jesus Shuttlesworth (Ray Allen), a top basketball player, to play for the governor’s alma mater in exchange for a reduced prison sentence.

There is a scene in the film where Jake goes to get a new pair of sneakers, which are the latest “Air Jordans” (Air Jordan 13 “He Got Game”) at the time. He would wear the pair throughout the movie, including the scene where Jake plays his son, Jesus, to get him to sign to Big State.
This Air Jordan 13 is dressed in a White, Black, and True Red color scheme. The 2016 will feature the same theme as the original. Highlighted with White tumbled leather on the panels with the signature dimples. In addition, we will have the hologram on the ankle, with Black suede, which also appears on most of the midsole. Black leather graces the toe box, tongue, and laces, and White fills in the pods. The design is completed with Red on the branding and outlines the outsole.
