The Air Jordan 12 was launched on November 8, 1996, designed by Tinker Hatfield, who drew inspiration from the Japanese rising sun flag and the stitching of women’s dress shoes. The “Black/Varsity Red” (Flu Game) dropped first, followed by “White/Black/Taxi” on December 20, 1996, and “Playoffs” on April 12, 1997. Jordan wore the shoe during the Bulls’ 1996-97 championship season, including his famous 38-point “Flu Game” performance in the Finals. The first retros came in 2003 with Taxi (released on November 22) and Flu Game (released on June 7). Notable releases include “Cherry” (February 4, 2009), “Obsidian” (November 24, 2012), Flu Game retro (May 28, 2016), “Royalty” (February 18, 2017), and “Reverse Flu Game” (May 25, 2019). Popular colorways have also made a return, including โFlu Game,โ โTaxi,โ and โCherry,โ which were re-released in the 2020s.
