Nike Free 5.0 Womens Doernbecher Designed by Melissa Missy Miller

When Melissa Miller, also known as ‘Missy’ had the chance to design a pair of Nike’s for the Doernbecher collection, she jumped all over it. Her expertise was added to the Women’s Nike Free 5.0.

You might remember Laurie Miller who was one of the first Doernbecher freestyle designers and is the sister of Missy. Laurie would pass away from a brainstem tumor.

In 2013, Missy was away at camp when she started to experience heart palpitations. The heart palpitation subsided but would come back. Her parents took her to the doctors where they found out she had Type 1 diabetes. The doctor would send her for an echocardiogram, but the results came back inconclusive. Eventually OHSU Doernbecher did another echocardiogram followed by an MRI, which they found out Missy had an atrial septum defect. Since Missy had a busy schedule with school, family, friends and sports, she scheduled open heart surgery for Christmas break.

Missy’s Nike Free 5.0 Womens Doernbecher is inspired by her favorite colors of pink, turquoise, purple, grey, green which make there way onto the shoes paired with a silver swoosh. On the heel is the New York City skyline, which she dreams of seeing her name in lights. The sockliner also is a tribute to the Big Apple. The collection also has a Leg-A-See tight and Windrunner jacket.
