There’s definitely an upside to being the oldest team in Major League Baseball. For the Cincinnati Reds, custom sneaker crew PMK designed a limited edition Nike Dunk Low custom for the team and COO, Phil Castellini.
Nicknamed the “Grand Slam Dunk,” here’s what PMK had to say about the project:
With a extreme amount of history behind the worlds first MLB team, we chose to design this Nike dunk using Baseball leather, glove leather, and black dress leather which dates back to the original black dress boot style baseball shoe, worn by the earlier players in the 1900’s. This shoe features the history of the reds logo laser etched into the front and heel of the shoe, while brown pebbled leather is used for the lining and represents the baseball glove. Both the toe and mud guard and heel feature the signature baseball stitch, while the side panels and checks receive glove stitch details and cross stitches. The craftsmanship and details put into this Reds Club design, make this design ultra premium and unique, basically you are looking at a worlds first. What other team would be more worthy of a design like this, other than “big red machine”, the first team in baseball, who dominated for 10 straight years in the 70’s.
