Nike Air Zoom Pulse Doernbecher Release Date Info

The Nike Air Zoom Pulse is a shoe designed for everyday heroes: nurses, doctors, home health providers and others who work tirelessly to support patients.

Product testing and medical-worker insights — those on-the-ground athletes — took place at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital located in Portland, Oregon. During the sessions, the designers of the Air Zoom Pulse learned the rigors of these health-care workers’ day-to-day efforts. Nurses, for example, walk approximately four to five miles and sit for less than an hour during the course of a 12-hour shift. The work is physically and mentally demanding. The design for the Air Zoom Pulse tackles those challenges with simplicity in mind. The shoe is easy to get on and off, and equally simple to clean. The fit, cushioning and traction systems work together to secure the foot in all hospital conditions.

One can think of the Air Zoom Pulse as almost a traditional clog made athletic — all the arch and posture support of that industry favorite is augmented in the Pulse, with a smooth capacity for natural motion.

And, of course, the shoe is also fabricated for the unforeseen peculiarities of life in the hospital. The coated toe box protects against any type of spill. Smooth surfaces present a unique challenge when designing for spills as well, and the shoe’s traction pattern solves for this by removing closed cells.

  1. we had a phenominal shoe x 20 years made by Skechers..BEFORE THEY BOUGHT THAT DAMN MEMORY FOAM. It was the Delight mule..no hands needed to slip on, no heel strap needed. They fit like a glove. A combo between clog & sneaker..likecwalking on clouds x 12hr shifts. From then on, they (Skechers) went rapidly downhill. The memory foam had dementia, they got cheap rubber and fabric. I now see them on shelves in Goodwill & other Thrift stores.
The Zoom pulse I feel you will sell a million pair of ONCE, but they are too ugly and expensive to buy more than one time…even for those of us who live in scrubs. Sorry…go back to the drawing board with some female RNs who do all that walking. We still like to look sexy. Those shoes have zero sex appeal.

    1. I am sorry they aren’t sexy enough for you. I find, as a health care professional same as you are, even wanting to be sexy very unprofessional. A hospital is not a fashion show. We are here to care for patients.

    2. Oh Holly…maybe your wording comes across wrong…sex appeal while at work; working with a person during their most vulnerable time? I feel sorry for your patience if that is your priority. To use your own words.. Sorry go back to the drawing board, you need to rethink your career.

  2. The only place I’m finding them is on eBay for 3 to 4 times the price. What gives! As a first assistant I stand in one place for a LONG time.

    1. Agreed Cynthia! I have the same job as you.. Why weren’t they released to medical professionals ONLY first? Now, People have scalped them all and I refuse to pay 500$ FOR A PAIR OF SHOES.
