Celebrating Ice Cream Day 2021, Nice Kicks will team up with Asics to release the Gel Lyte III ‘Nice Cream.’
That nostalgic feeling of walking through the doors of a parlor. Getting smacked in the face with the cold ice cream parlor air. Your eyes darting around the ice cream case in search of the perfect flavor. The anticipation that comes as your choice gets scooped up and placed into your hands. That singular ice cream parlor experience is something the creative team wanted to capture with this release.
This Asics Gel Lyte III is just like the classic dessert destination in that it blends different ingredients together for delicious results. Nice Kick’s creative used a variety of materials to truly make a high-quality and unique sneaker. The color palette derives from the classic ice cream parlor flavors vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate.
The Ice Cream Story is told on the shoe with a white outsole, patent leather, tonal net, and a splatter mid-piece. There are two sets of laces. One pair is tonal, while the other is emerald green. A cherry hangtag is included to top off the design. Emerald green tint, which you might see on glassware in a vintage ice cream parlor, is utilized on the laces and cherry on top hangtag.
Ice Cream theming continues with a flip white matte shoe box. The box is modeled after a milkshake glass, and you can see the shoe’s colors through the translucent parts of it. A gloss hit of melting milkshake is part of the design as well.

Update (7/26): We had the chance to catch up with Bryan and Jo from Nice Kicks to speak on the Nice Kicks x ASICS Gel Lyte III OG ‘Nice Cream’ collaboration.
Bryan & Jo, can you talk about each of your roles on this Nice Kicks x ASICS collaboration?
Bryan (Product Lead): I manage most of the projects Nice Kicks works on. I also curate the assortments for our stores.
Jo (Creative Lead): Storyteller on this project.
Why did you guys decide to take on an Ice Cream theme for this collaboration?
Bryan: We decided on an ice cream approach because of the nostalgia of eating ice cream. Currently, with the times we are living in, ice cream is such a great escape. As a team, we always have ice cream for team building and brainstorm sessions. Ice cream takes you to a different place and it reminds you of your youth. We hope these shoes bring people back to that nostalgic place too.
How long did this project take from concept to launch?
Jo: This project took over a year. With COVID, it slowed the process down a bit, but it helped us figure out the concept and colors for the shoe.
How was ASICS as a collaborator?
Jo: Amazing team! Asics takes it to another level when it comes to materials and attention to detail.
Nice Kicks has created a lot of memorable sneaker collaborations recently, are exciting collabs like this important to the Nice Kicks Brand?
Bryan: Yes, very! Story telling is our specialty. No matter if it’s our Nice Kicks apparel or shoes. We want to make sure that there is a reason for everything we do.
