By now,  most of you have probably heard about Jordan Brand’s Air Jordan XII Retro ‘Rising Sun’ release fiasco. Originally set to hit retailers yesterday, October 24th, JB announced on Friday that they were delaying the launch of the collection – footwear, apparel, and accessories included. Rumour has it that issues with the ‘Rising Sun’ insole are the main reason for delay, but we’ll have to wait and see what changes are made in the new version to be sure. The new scheduled release date for the model is November 21st, leaving those of you who were fortunate enough to grab a pair before the recall with a solid month of exclusive ownership.jordan-12-rising-sun3

  1. I'v seen the material on the retro 12 flu games, and if these have the same material as that one, then forget this shoe. I will just get the retro 2 2010. I am starting to stop buying jordan brand shoes because of the material, so I am looking forward to purcashing nike products instead.

  2. I remember back in the day that spending $100 on shoes guaranteed getting something of high quality.

I could wear my OG Jordans (V, VI, VII, VIII) DAILY without any concern.

Sigh, those were the good ol' days!

  3. Honestly that really stupid why they calling them all back just because the insole offended some people? really if it bothers you then just dont buy them stop being so picky about a flag in the part of the shoe that nobody is going to see, its called rising sun for a reason you stupid pricks

  4. the in-sole has a japanese rising sun, with a big jumpman in the middle of it. i can see how the japanese people are upset about it, i just dont see how someone from brand jordan let it slip through and no one thought anything of it. imagine an american flag with 50 jumpman logos instead of stars…not gonna fly!

  5. the reason is because the insoles. the insoles had the japanese flag and they took offense because wen we wear the sneakers we would be steppin on there flag.

  6. well the whole inspiration of the jordan 12 was taken from that flag? what should we do right?

  7. well i guess if u bought a early pair ur lucky because the remakes wont have the jap flag on the insole….. which means there gonna be " harder to get " with the flag in them so just for that ppl will value them more…. just like the og 10 that had the front toe cap…

  8. I am not sure about whether its the japanese who is complainning about the insoles or somebody else. You see, the rising sun flag was used by Japan during wold war 2. During that time the Japanese committed a lot of atrocities across asia…. stuff like chemical testing in China, comfort women, etc. Millions were killed. So I can see a huge market in China and Asian countries is put off by the flag…. I am only guessing here so maybe somebody can confirm it…

  9. the flag is actually the japanese empire flag. which everybody who knows history that was dark time for many pacific island and asian nations. but that is the only change being made. because nike released te infant and little kid versions

  10. @Muneko: You can start off by learning how to spell and type correctly… Then, a well written or typed letter, or perhaps a phone call with an educated voice to speak to CSR… should be able to get you your money back.

I hate when people type incorrectly on purpose… is it really THAT hard to type correctly and not completely misspell a word yet still use the same amount of letters? Just seems really stupid.

  11. seriously man what is the big deal, it's a shoe insole and who really looks inside. I don't go out buying a pair of shoes because i love the insoles of it!! Man i reckon Jordan is just causing these issues so they can make another set to sell and us going crazy about the 1st release cos it's a so called collectors edition now. I love JB but, it's fading on me now. I love the retro's but the new designs are not up to standard.

  12. There was an uproar about this several weeks ago in the Asian market. I read an article saying protests were held, boycotts were implemented, etc. against Nike by the Koreans and Chinese who were offended by the "Rising Sun" flag on the insoles due to its WWII implications. I thought that was rather funny since they seemed to ignore the fact that THE ENTIRE SHOE is the rising sun logo. Regardless, Nike announced there would be a different insole for the Asian market ONLY.

This is why I was surprised when I went to the mall extra early Saturday morning, only to find out that the shoes weren't being released ANYWHERE due to the insoles. Apparently, the Japanese were also offended because their flag is being "walked on" since they're under your feet on the insoles.

Still, this is complete BS. JB has known about this problem for a while, but decided to wait till the last second to cancel the release date? It is an obvious publicity stunt to try and create hype and buzz around yet another retro that probably wouldn't have sold that well otherwise.

  13. Well, I'll tell you regardless of the rumors… the delay wasn't to quality. I've had mine since the Monday after the original intended release date as I bought them on eBay from a reliable seller a few days before the release date once the email had been sent to all Jordan retailers issuing a stop-sale. Big Ups to Jordan King for letting me know about the email while I was off the island.

I will still cop another pair on release day, as I saved my insoles that have the Rising Sun on them.

This wasn't hype, this was political correctness at it's worse.

They sell American flag underwear… and you can fart on those… it wasn't walking on their flag… it was the glorification of the flag of the Empire of Japan.

You say who cares? Really, think about it… what if they came out with a Jordan Retro XII Hitler that had a little baby picture of Hitler wearing some Jays… probably wouldn't be popular with everybody.

Needless to say I wore these at my local mall and got stares and questions from five different people in one hour.

They're fresh, they're fresh, and they crush. The shoe looks better on than it does in the box though.

  14. I just bought mine last week before the retailer got the memo, am I lucky or what? How much would that shoes be worth now?
