For those anticipating the release of the Wonka film, the lead actor, Timothée Chalamet, connected with Nike to create the Willy Wonka x Nike Dunk Low.
A new Willy Wonka movie is set to debut in theatres on December 15th, 2023. Known as “Wonka,” the film tells the origin story of Willy Wonka, one of the main characters from the novel turned movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The star of the film, Timothée Chalamet, who plays Wonka, had the opportunity to collaborate with Nike Sportswear on the Nike Dunk Low, drawing inspiration from the character he plays.
In an interview with Complex, Chalamet said the following:

The Wonka x Nike Dunk Low collaboration was created to build hype for the movie’s upcoming debut. Five pairs of shoes will be given out to individuals who partake in a special giveaway. To enter, individuals will need to create Wonka-inspired content via video submissions.
As mentioned, the shoes are inspired by Willy Wonka. Featuring Burgundy velvet on the tongue from Wonka’s jacket, and the pattern in vibrant shades mimics what’s inside his coat. On the heels, we have the cloud candy from the movie with a Brown leather tongue label with Wonka’s “W.” When designing the shoes, Chalamet brought the jacket from the film to Nike’s Beaverton campus. This helped him and the team through the design process.
Chalamet also looked to other places for inspiration. For example, the “What The Dunks” came into play with its unique look, while the layered Swoosh logos derive from Sacai’s Nike collaborations. Lastly, the distressed detailing throughout is a nod to Wonka’s attire.
Although the Willy Wonka x Nike Dunk Low won’t be available at retailers, you can own a pair. To enter the giveaway, you’ll need to create and submit a 1-minute video sharing your Willy Wonka creations. Remember, only five people will win a pair.
