Marion Franklin Rudy, aka Frank Rudy, will forever be attached to Nike due to the fact that he is the engineer that created Nike’s Air technology. Nike launched the first shoe with ‘Air’ technology, the Air Tailwind, in 1978. In 1980, the brand was able to patent the technology.
Launching in 2022, Nike Sportswear will debut the Nike Air Max 97, a tribute to the late Frank Rudy. Highlighted in a Summit White, Black, and Safety Orange color combination. Using a mesh, suede, and leather build, some of the standout features include EST. 1997 on the lateral Air unit, a blueprint on the insoles with his signature, and his name on the lace tips. Lastly, it comes with a hangtag that resembles an air pressure gauge.
