Whenever a Doernbecher collection is announced, many, including myself, anticipate the unveiling. Typically, most are excited about the silhouettes used and what the designer did. When details leaked that the 2026 pair from Jordan Brand would be the Air Jordan 17, it generated excitement. Zach Rumbaugh has put his talents into the model that will be released in Spring 2026 and part of the Nike Doernbecher Freestyle 21 (2026) collection.
Zach is from Oregon and is currently 18 years old. He survived a cardiac arrest after jumping into a pool due to a rare heart defect. He wound up spending 38 days in the hospital, but he would make a recovery. For his collaboration, it takes the things he loves and his journey. It also features cues from his love of fixing bikes and cars, which he has learned through YouTube.
As you can see, this Air Jordan 17 features a beautiful shade of Purple on the upper that shifts in colors, a nod to custom paint jobs. To further the car theme, it also comes with carbon fiber textures, and for the inside, it has a quilted collar. Additionally, the sneakers have metallic bolts on the eyelets, a nod to bikes and cars.
It also has the signature removable shroud, and underneath, we have “Team Zach Rumbaugh” and Doernbecher Freestyle on the left tongue, and a Jumpman on the right. Various lace jewels are used, including a Jumpman, baseball, 23, 38, and a silhouette of the 17. A cat graphic lands on the toe, and elephant print adorns the tongue. Other details include graphics on the insoles that connect to his Vietnamese heritage, and a glow-in-the-dark rubber outsole.

I love what Zach did with the Doernbecher Air Jordan 17. The shade of Purple I am a huge fan of (I am a Kings fan), plus all the details that connect to bikes and cars, is very nice. It’s been some time since we saw the mid-top version of the Jordan 17 release, making this pair really special. For me, if I can get my hands on a pair, it’s a 100% pickup.
