A large part of the success experienced by the Vans brand stems from the number of different models this comfortable shoe line has brought into creation. This August, Vans is welcoming the beginning of summer’s end with two colorways on two refreshed pair of favorites: the Sk8 Hi and the Authentic Lo Pro.

The first colorway is officially made up of “parachute purple” with white accents and the second of “chilli pepper” with white accents. Of particular interest with this release is what resembles crocodile/snake skin on both shoe models. As often is the case, these colorways and models are going to be “hate it or love it” for many. With its peacoat fabric upper and vulcanized bottom, the Vans “Peacoat” Chukka is a perfect wintertime addition to any sneakerhead’s quiver. The shoe is available now in hearty navy blue with a black sole and heather grey/black. Black chrome eyelets and laces compliment the comfortable upper, but it’s the peacoat anchor button and heel strap that are this Chukka’s defining details. Vans brings its Aion model back in a big way this fall, with two new pinstripe colorways for the cooler autumn climate. In both Black and Navy/Purple, the mid-top sneaker is done justice with dark soles, leather ankle piping, and a suede toe box. The midpanel being canvas, the shoe integrates three very different materials in a rather elegant manner. Both colorways are available now from Journal Standard.

Straight from the Spring 2010 Vault collection, pictures of two inventive models of the Authentic have made their way onto the web. Class meets classic as the timeless sneaker appears to feature an all leather upper under standard white laces. In both Brown and Violet, the colorways bring a subtle element of formality I’ve never seen from any other leather Vans model. Slated to release in February of next year, I can’t wait to see more pictures.

Lately, Vans has been reaching into its extensive archives for inspiration and the occasional re-issue. Earlier this summer, we previewed the Fall 2009 collection known as the “Off The Wall Pack,” which is an impressive package of re-issues from some of the company’s earliest sneakers. The pack includes  Slip-Ons, Eras, Old Skool ’77s and Mid Skool ’77s in suede/canvas combos and vibrant colorways that were popular back in the day, such as the Classic Blue/Gold Slip-Ons, Gold/Green Old Skools, and Blue/White Mid Skools. No detail was left out, including a retro treatment on the box design – as you can see. Of course, all of the sneakers feature the Vans patented waffle soles.
