Discussion-Deja-Vu

The online trend continues…

After weeks of images and speculation, the Doernbecher Collection released online at NikeStore.com, at least we think they did. The site ended up crashing faster than Kim Kardashian’s marriage.

When the Ray Allen AJXIII’s released on Finish Line, we expected servers to crash yet they didn’t. In this situation, we have come to expect slower than average processing time and instead we had a slew of frustrated consumers unable to process order, add to cart and then the entire site shut down for maintenance…

When the 2011 Doernbecher Collection first surfaced, the blogs ran rampant with negative comments towards the lineup’s designs, most notably the Air Jordan IV. Turns out, when anything marked with a limited availability label is released, the masses come running. The sad part is that most of those who intend to purchase the charity driven release are in it for one reason, to make a profit. Before the collection even hit NikeStore’s site pairs had been listed as available (somehow) and priced near the $500 mark.

At this point in time, we are unaware of anyone who was successful in obtaining a pair via NikeStore.com, our Twitter mentions were flooding with angry (and rightfully so) customers… most of whom had been stationed by their computers for up to four hours before the items were added to the store.

One would assume that with all the revenue made throughout the years & being labeled as the most profitable sportswear company’s in the world, Nike would have made the appropriate accommodations for an increased volume of visitors to the online store specifically for this type of release. Even if you loaded NikeStore.com to purchase the NYC Spiz’ike pack, you were unable to do so due to the increased volume of page loads in such a short amount of time.

On the bright side, if you are located where a Nike Town resides, there is still a chance for you to be able to purchase a pair from the collection in person… for those of us who aren’t will just have to deal with it, or pay more than double the retail price for a pair.

What are your thoughts on the situation; has this happened far too many times in the past, is Nike neglecting their focus on customer service by failing to prepare for such malfunctions, Are there too many people eager to obtain a pair strictly for resell purposes?

Was anyone able to purchase a pair from NikeStore.com?

At the end of the day, the release is geared towards a charitable cause… if every pair sells, the goal has been reached. Lets just hope this doesn’t happen on December 23rd.

    1. Same thing happened to me 4 times then i finally got to place my order and they were all out…

        1. OMG same thing to me had it in my cart then it went all casper on me and vanish. How the hell do my cart have an item vanish. Nike is becoming complete bullshit then they want to raise prices. Where is the money going cause it seem like its not going to maintenance.

  1. That’s some bs i had in my cart as well and it happened to disappear after a couple hrs of refreshing. SMH!!!!! and then mysteriously sold out

  2. That was unacceptable and truly just a mess! I was refreshing for hours and finally as soon as Jordan popped up I put it in my cart and tried to check out. Thats when the frustration started… The site just sat and sat, I couldn’t do anything, it actually at one point got me to the paypal site like I was ready to hit pay now and low and behold another freeze section… then booted off.
Saying it was frustrating is an understatement. You would think a company like Nike would have servers that could support something like this. This kind of stuff makes me just want to stop buying the shoes, but unfortunately I’m a sneaker head for life and just love my sneakers.
Good job to whoever got lucky enough to score a pair!

  3. I was able to get mine…i had 2 computers up and they both crashed..stuck for two hours with it in my cart then i finally checked out got kicked out of paypal then it all of a sudden confirmed the order. So i was able to get a pair. All the hell i went through i definitely wont resell.

  4. IM PISSED OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF THATS SOME M-THER F-CKING BS. I HAD THEM MAN AND POOF GONE. WHAT HELL NIKE WHATS UR PROBLEM. ALL THE MONEY YOU GOT AND YOU CANT HAVE YOUR SYSTEM WORKING RITE. I BUY TONS OF SHOES OFF YA. AND THIS IS HOW YOU TREAT US. YOUD BE NOTHING WITH OUT CUSTOMERS LIKE US YOU A-HOLES.

  5. Copped mine after 2 hours online of refreshing and trying to check out. Thought that it was sold out, but received a confirmation email. Definitely a keeper for my collection. Smh a all those reaellers…

  6. I had the exact same problem this summer when I was trying to purchase the Nike Foamposite Pine on release day. I had it in my cart mysteriously disappeared. It did the same when I was on Eastbay too. They gotta do BETTER.

  7. i got my Doernbecher off the Nikestore site after bout 3 hrs of checkout…. site kept freezing, shoes dissapearing from cart, and kept having to hit refresh! SMH… sites gotta get better… Buuuuuuut i was successful!! Doernbecher Air Max 95s on deck!!

  8. It took two hours and a bunch of re-adding to the cart, then multiples, then removals, more refreshing and waiting etc…then around 1:17am CST (must be a magical time), I was successful in purchasing the Doernbecher “Superman” AJ Retro IVs in size 14…sorry guys!

  9. i was able to cop the air maxs but it was like three hours later after countless refreshes and taking a nap smh. i wanted to get them orange spizikes too but the site was trippin. like if ndc is not goin o improve their servers they shouldnt release 8 highly sought after kicks on the same day

  10. It’s funny, at midnight I kept refreshing the “Newest” option and neither the IV’s or Spizikes would show up at all. Then I was finally able to order a pair of Spizikes from finishline.com. They posted them around 12:06am or so. But the IV’s, I gave up on. I tried to copp them, but they’d just load and load and load. Nike.com SUCKS big time.

  11. [[-__-]]… I was so close. Then the black screen. I normally don’t have problems but, I did this round…Oh Well. I wish Nike would have handled it better but, it is what it is. Now I wonder how the Yeezy 2 and Red Foams are going to be handled…Nike?… Ball is in their court

  12. Once again it happened. YOTRs, Ray Allen’s list goes on. I think they don’t have much stock on the website they give away b4 the release dates to famous folks. When these cats can pay them ridiculous eBay prices. and good luck grabbing them at a Nike stores cuz the employees hold wristbands for their friends. How you have dudes on Craiglist or eBay with 5 or more pair available and we couldn’t even get one & 12:00 with 8 seconds. Then you go to the store and their are no wristbands left an the line ain’t even that long. But as far as the store employees I guess u really can’t hate on them cuz they make a few bucks an hour so it’s inderstandable I guess it’s a hustle. But for a cause like this I think they shouldve made more specially or the cause. I guess it’s better to drop a bunch of nasty color ways of Jordan, wades and Brons that end up going on clearance for almost 70% off. I guess we still gonna keep buying them they got us like crack heads even after the 10 dollar price hike….

    1. You’d think that a multi billion dollar company like Nike would have the server power to host a release like this…It’s a big joke. It sucks that the resellers are gonna benefit off of this release with none of that money going to the actual charity. Such is life I guess.

  13. Did the website thing, didn’t work…of course. Same story as everyone else. I said ok, I’ll go to NIKETOWN SF because they said “1st come, 1st serve” no raffle, no wristbands. I got off of work, called them, asked if it was still “1st come, 1st serve”, they said yes…just come early because they had 50 people in-line, not to worry because they had a good amount. Long story short, they ended up doing the wristband thing, they should have told me they were doing that when I called (which was when they started handing them out). I hate NT right now for not giving us that kind of info.

What makes me more sick is, that these shoes are for a “charity”. All these damn re-sellers only the only one’s REALLY making money off these. Also, woudn’t it make sense to not have them limited if the money is going to a good cause? It would solve so many freakin’ problems.

    hallelujah, holla back!

  14. THATS WHY IF POSSIBLE..IF YOU CAN 2 GET OUTSIDE A BRICK AND MORTAR..YOU HAVE BETTER ODDS..THIS ONLINE ISHHH IS A TOSS UP???YOUR ORDER GOES THRU AND THE NEXT DAY YOU GET A EMAIL..THAT YOUR SIZE IS IT OUT STOCK OR NOT AVAIL..#PHUCCALLDAT….SOMETIMES CAMPING OUT IS DA ONLY OPTION IF AVAIL..

  15. Its not just nike.com either, same thing happened to me, and from what I heard, a lot of other people on Thursday night at midnight on Eastbay.com. I went on there around 12:02 and “bought” the Lebron 9 Miami Nights, added them to my cart, entered my paypal info, then it said it couldnt connect to paypal, then I entered my credit card info, my order “processed” and I received a customer number. Never got a confirmation email, called Eastbay the next day and they said the size I wanted was gone and my order wasn’t processed. Freakin BS, I hate tryin to do that online, as sad as it is, sometimes depending on the release, its easier to pay a few bucks more and secure what you want than it is to mess around with these retailers online or waiting in long lines forever or camping for days.

  16. I hope this does not happen with the concord 11’s. Re sellers just piss me off the ruin the shoe game all of us. I have no problem with those re sellers that sell past retro’s for good price but is those re sellers that price shoes at way over cost prices. Just this past month Ray allen 13’s starting at 800 to 1000 dollars thats crazy. Spizikes that just came out at 500 thats just completley messed. All those re sellers buy all of the shoes and were stuck with either over cost or nothing at all.

  17. NIKETOWN CHICAGO WAS HECTIC!! POLICE KICKED EVERYONE OUTTA LINE FRIDAY AFTERNOON, POLICE IN FRONT OF NIKETOWN ALL NIGHT, COME 4AM COMPLETE INSANITY, PADDY WAGONS SHOWED UP, CHICAGO GETS GRITTY FOR JORDANS

  18. Waited and refreshed for 2 hrs, had them pop up and then it crashed when I added it to the cart and never bothered to try again.
