It was 20 years ago when the world of basketball was changed forever. 12 men – 11 of them future Hall of Famers – were assembled to create the greatest team ever assembled in any sport. If you mentioned the 1992 USA Men’s Basketball Team, it may take a second to click with some; but, if you mentioned the Dream Team, most would be able to rattle off some of the names from that team that are now enshrined in Olympic and basketball history. The Dream Team took the 1992 Barcelona Olympics by storm. Already household names from their NBA stardom, the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird created a whirlwind of public attention upon their arrival in Spain. The team’s play on the court lived up to the player’s reputations. The team won all eight games they played en route to the Gold Medal by an average of nearly 44 points. Led by Charles Barkley’s 18 points per game and Michael Jordan, who was the only member of the Dream Team to start every game, the Dream Team did so much more than win a Gold medal. Most obviously, the Team inspired a generation of international players who saw top flight basketball for the first time on the intentional stage. A wave of international player, mainly from Europe, landed in the NBA in the mid-90′s in a trend that continues today. Every Olympic federation prays that their sport can be transformed for future generations like the Dream Team did for basketball.

Off the court, the Dream Team had an influence on everything from fashion to politics. The Dream Team Uncut Series Presented by Foot Locker and Vibe will explore some of the ways the Dream Team had an impact. In the first episode, which can be seen below, the likes of Stuart Scott, Terrell Owens, Big Sean, Carmelo Anthony, David Robinson, and many more sound off on their memories of the 1992 USA Men’s Olympic Basketball squad – The Dream Team.
