Nike’s Sportswear division recently released the court-centric Tennis Classic “Icey Sole”. The TC’s subtle white upper is complimented by a black Swoosh and translucent outsole. A “BRS” emblem is printed on the shoe’s sockliner and stitching reinforcements ride vertically along the shoe’s side panel. How does the Nike Tennis Classic “Icey Sole” compare to past Nike Air Force 1 (Ones) with translucent outsoles? It seems as if the hybrid craze has even taken off overseas as Fragment Design mastermind, Hiroshi Fujiwara, teamed up with Nike to create an Air Force 1 / Tennis Classic mashup. Being nicknamed the Panda Edition, these hybrids take the traditional Tennis Classic upper and place it onto the Air Force 1 sole. Some key features include the perforated swoosh, the panda head on the heel tab, and the Fragment Design logo at the heel. Also, you’ll find a block of Chinese characters on the tongue. This model was scrapped, and you’ll have to pay 6800 HKD (approx. $877) for these size 9 samples.

Back in February we got a glimpse at the Fragment Design x Nike Air Force 1/Tennis Classic Hybrid from the Sinchuan Panda pack. The sneakers were also rumored to be produced in very limited quantities and given to friends and family of Fragment Design. Fast forward a few weeks later and the rare sneakers have surfaced online once again. The sneakers consist of an interesting mixture of a Tennis Classic base and an Air Force 1 sole. As with the most recent collaborations, the sneakers also sport the perforated swoosh to accompany a black and white color scheme that ties into the Sinchuan Panda theme. Don’t expect to see these in stores anytime soon, but you can pick up a sample pair now via the ‘Bay.

Coming off the release of the Tennis Classic Collection, Fragment Design will continue their partnership with Nike through 2009 with release of the Footscape and Tennis Classic. Using the Tennis Classic once again, Fragment Design implements a simple look with only using a white upper along with a black heel tab and perforated swoosh. The second of their collaborations with Nike is the Footscape. This Footscape features black, white and blue on the heel and tab with the Fragment logo. Look for both to drop sometime in 2009. Getting a bit of love from Fragment Design earlier in the month, the Nike Tennis Classic is more than just the base for the collaboration, but has appeared in four new designs. The first of the four uses neutral colors like obsidian, granite and white. The second of the four is also another subtle sneaker that consists of black, anthracite and stealth. However, the last two feature a little bit more color with color-ways of baroque brown/sport red/yellow ochre and hemp/baroque brown. Prior to the release of the Fragment Design x Nike Tennis Classic, Fragment Design and Nike created a different Tennis Classic to benefit the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. The Tennis Classic is primarily made up of a black leather upper along with white accents and Fragment Design logo embroidered at the heel. Furthermore, a matching Panda Bearbrick will also be auctioned off with the Tennis Classic. Unfortunately, these Tennis Classics have come and gone and all of the pairs have been auctioned, but nevertheless an interesting concept that goes to a good cause. Via Jungle23.
