After hearing about the Vans Re-Issue of the Ray Barbee Vans Old Skool ‘92, we were a little excited. What makes us go crazy is the fact that Vans has released a whole Ray Barbee Re-Issue collection to celebrate 20 years of the man’s professional skate career. The Re-Issue collection consists of the aforementioned Old Skool ‘92 LX in white and black colorways, a Vans Era ‘87 in green, and a Vans Chukka ‘95 in brown. All four skate shoes are released like it’s not even 2009, with the original materials, packaging, and everything else to every last detail. After the return of the Onitsuka Tiger Lawnship, the Asics sub-brand has another retro in-store for the upcoming year. The Onitsuka Tiger Lay-Up will make a comeback, after its introduction in 1972, in three bright colorways. The Lay-Up is a hightop shoe that follows the same silhouette of the Converse Chuck Taylor. “Tiger” is printed vertically at the heel to go along with the logo tongue tag. The orange, blue, and red nylon uppers are combined with white midsoles and toes to make these classic comebacks. Be sure to find these at your local Tiger retailer come February 2010.

Aside from the hype about the Spike Lee Nike Big Nike, Nike is still releasing the model in some great colorways. The Nike Big Nike High comes in a dark grey/metallic silver-white colorway. The hightop shoe uses a dark grey suede toe, white leather toebox, dark grey scale skin leather side panel, dark grey leather, and metallic silver swoosh to make this a very detailed shoe. The dark panels are contrasted nicely by a white midsole and white leather heel panel, where the Nike logo is printed in bold lettering. These are available now online at LTD and PYS for $80.

After previewing the Knoll x Vans Mountain Edition, Vans has rolled out another release for the hightop model. The Vans Syndicate Mountain Edition Mid S also contracts some heavy material hitters, using ballistic nylon mesh and Wolverine leather on the uppers of the warrior/black and warrior/khaki colorways. Waterproof pigskin nubuck and OUTLAST inner lining are also added to the mix, making this shoe a mouthful to say when reading off the list of materials used. These Mountain Editions are built to withstand the harsh winter season, and run in a limited quantity, for $110 each.

The last Nike Dynastys to release were given some colorful mockups. This month, Nike has released the Nike Dynasty High LE Quickstrike in an all-grey colorway. Don’t single it out as dull though, as its all grey leather upper makes for a clean pair of retro Nikes, especially with its white midsole and grey ankle strap. A red Nike logo at the back heel gives the shoe some surprising contrast to this two-toned shoe. These Dynastys are available now at 21 Mercer in limited numbers.

Usually, collaborations boost shoe sales by making shoes look better. The latest collaboration by Vans not only makes a pair of Vans look good, but have better quality as well. Vans Vault teamed up with KnollTextiles, a material manufacturing company that specializes in top of the notch material. The Knoll x Vans Vault Mountain Edition High LX is the finest of Vans, coming in four tonal colorways that utilize the best material Knoll has. The Mountain Edition High comes in purple, blue, olive, and black, with uppers that feel like some durable synthetic material close to vinyl. Each shoe sports a brown leather logo side panel and white midsole to make these some clean colorways. Look out for a release in Spring 2010.

With all the shoes dropping from Nike, Reebok, and Vans, to name a few, it seems like we’re forgetting something. That’s right! K-Swiss is still lingering around under the radar, but still dropping some nice kicks for those who aren’t into the hype. The shoe company has released the K-Swiss Classic High P in two stunning colorways: metallic bronze and red patent. The bronze/white/black pair uses a metallic bronze leather upper and white midsole, making this a simple colorway that stands out. The red/black pair differs from the former, with its dark red patent upper and black sole. Both are available now for $115 on the K-Swiss website.
