Player Exclusive Rewind: Allen Iverson X (10)

It was the trade of all trades. Legendary Philadelphia 76ers point guard Allen Iverson was being shipped to the Denver Nuggets, further enchancing the talent-rich Western Conference. Secondly, there were hopes that the brazen, yet veteran guard would provide the leadership and skills necessary to make the hopeful Nuggets a title contender. The stars never aligned for the Nuggs, as they made a series of early exits in the playoffs, but at least the lightning-quick Iverson was doing it in style. Reebok blessed the Answer with an exclusive pair of his tenth signature shoe, the Answer X in a beautiful white/powder yellow/sky blue color scheme. The X was a beautifully sculpted piece of kit, as it incorporated an exaggerated CMEVA midsole, half-zipper/half tradional lace closure system, and podular outsole to impart an organic feel on-court. Player Exclusive Rewind: adidas T-Mac V (5) Houston All-Star Game ‘06

(33 Votes, Rating: 3.55 5)

The 2006 NBA All-Star Game and its celebrity-oriented festivities proved to be an eventful weekend for the NBA’s leading studs. adidas frontman and Houston Rockets forward Tracy McGrady was blessed by the Three Stripes with his own special-make up pair of the T-Mac V in white/blue/red to match the uniforms and color scheme of the public relations extravaganza. The shoe is a tasteful blend of high-quality synthetic leather and patent leather, with the “Houston All-Star 2006″ logo highlighting the shoe’s prominent overhanging support strap. Wood cut-outs mark the heel and midfoot of the shoe, and coincided wonderfully with Adi’s “See Wood…” campaign. You can grab your pair on eBay here!

Player Exclusive Rewind: Brent Barry’s Reebok Question III Mid

Own the footwear of this legend today!

A 2007 Reebok Basketball advertisement proclaimed, “Different Question, Same ANSWER.” The conspicuous slogan was implemented in an embargo for the Question III, the latest from Allen Iverson’s other line. The shoe proved to be a generally unassuming ride, with RBK’s Hexalite cushioning interface placed in the heel and forefoot, a magnetic midfoot strap for added sturdiness up top, and circular TPU inserts integrated into the upper for added ventilation. Team Reebok ballplayer and San Antonio Spurs forward Brent Barry wore the shoe sparingly in ‘07, but when he did, he sported the model in a unique white/black colorway to perfectly match his home uniform. Barry’s version is enhanced by “Team” (I’m dissapointed–where’s his “Bones” moniker?) inscribed along the heel, but otherwise, there’s nothing that differs between these and the general release version. Even so, you can cop them on eBay here.

Player Exclusive Rewind: Kurt Thomas’s adidas a3 Clutch Mid

Journeyman drive the latest Mercedes Benz to practice; journeyman also get hit off with player exclusives. Kurt Thomas, no slight on the big guy, is the epitome of the voyaging NBA’er, peregrinating from team to team, collecting checks, making money, contributing to his team when necessary, and having a pretty good time with goldigging women at the club. (Jeff Garcia, didn’t T.O. call you gay? Hope you’re not too displeased!) Carmellas and Carmelos aside, KT is a member of the vaunted adidas Brotherhood. In ‘06, the brand hit him off with a gorgeous white/blue/orange iteration of a3 Clutch Mid, a racing inspired shoe complimented by heel-oriented a3 struts creating a delightful feel underfoot. Comfortable and easy on the eyes. (I’m thinking Jeff Garcia again.) Thomas’s initials are stitched on the ankle strap, while his number 40 is inscribed on the heel. If you’re feeling the Clutch, head over to eBay where you can grab them here. Garcia’s wife not included.

Player Exclusive Rewind: Al Harrington’s Nike Air Force 25 Mid

Nike’s ‘07 Air Force 25 Campaign was a dud. Sure, the white jumpsuits, commercial, and Just Blaze beat/Juelz rhymes were hot, but the general product was…umm…not hot justified, particularly at a $150 pricepoint. Fact of the matter is, consumers weren’t paying that much for a product with zero casual appeal, and bulky technology. But when in-store releases fail, I often turn to player exclusives–and that’s exactly what I’ve done here. Uber-athletic Golden State forward Al Harrington sported this buttery smooth pair of blue patent/yellow patent AF25’s on court for the ‘07 campaign. Couple that with Al’s “AH32″ logo creatively applied to the ankle latch, and you’ve got a winner. Purchase this pair from a former Golden State equipment room manager here. (He/she will put them back up eventually!)
