Now available from classic Japanese footwear brand Onitsuka Tiger are some new, limited edition kicks.

The SAMD Hi LE sports a combination of premium leather and suede on the upper alongside a white accents and a white vulcanized sole.

Available in both black and royal blue, you can pick these up now from mita for about $270.

Asics employee Mutaurwa Mapondera embarked on a trip to Kobe, Japan to meet the Onitsuka Tiger Legends and find out what made the brand what it is today.

Onitsuka Tiger, a subsidiary of Asics, is one of the oldest shoe companies in Japan with roots dating back to 1949. With production out of the historic city of Kobe, a place where all Japanese shoe molds were once produced, the city has played a significant role in its history of shoe making and the culture of its people.

The Onitsuka Tiger was first introduced in 1966 and was the first to bear the ‘Tiger Stripes’. This particular style was also worn in the 1968 Olympics held in Mexico. If you liked the Onitsuka Tiger Tsunahiki Hi, then get a load of the Onitsuka Tiger Tsunahiki Low. The Tsunahiki Low comes in two colorways: tan/aqua and black/pink. Both shoes use leather uppers with suede toeboxes. The toe features a hand-stitched lining to give the shoe a moccasin feel. This thin-lined shoe keeps its lightweight body with the help of a light ridged outsole. The contrasting colors are placed on the stitching and laces on the shoe. If you’re digging the low-top hipster shoe, then go find your own pair for this Holiday 2009 season.

Onistuka Tiger keeps bringing back that old heat, and this time, it’s from its old Himalayan collection. The Onitsuka Tiger Himalayan Deluxe comes in two clean colorways: black and olive. Both shoes use full premium leather uppers, making this a rugged hiking boot style with a sneaker sole.  Red contrasts the colorways, as it is placed on the insole, tongue tag, and outsole to give the shoe some flavor. “Himalayan Tiger” is placed on the side ankle to represent what the shoe is all about. These Himalayans are available now for a deluxe price of almost $300 a pair.

Beloved for its simple profile and eleoquent detailing, the classic model is seeing three new releases, just in time for the start of Fall. San Francisco boutique Shoebiz recently partnered up with Onitsuka Tiger to create a premium version of the Mexico ’66 in navy blue/yellow. The All-Vegan shoe features a mesh overlay up top with a 3M layer underneath. The model’s gum outsole is finished by a black “rubber” toecap. The Mexico’s sockliner features Shoebiz’s dinosaur logo. The Shoebiz x Onitsuka Tiger Mexico ’66 will be available exclusively at Shoebiz later this summer.
