We’ve seen home and away Player Exclusives of the Nike Zoom Hyperize designed for Derek Fisher in the past. Being that Derek Fisher has played in more than 180 playoff games, no one on the Los Angeles Lakers squad can underestimate his importance. And, apparently, Nike is aware of his importance as well. We previewed one of Pau Gasol’s player exclusive colorways of the Nike Hyperize last year, and we now have two more styles of the model to share. Both pairs are made exclusively for Pau Gasol, the L.A. Lakers’ starting big man. The first sneaker yields a ‘home’ colorway composed of a white upper with purple and gold accents, while the ‘away’ style features a black base with similar gold and purple accents. Yi Jianlian, New Jersey Nets forward and proud Asian man, has been rockin’ this player exclusive pair of Nike Hyperize this season in New Jerusalem. The Nike Basketball shoe features a clear middle, white toe, and varsity blue and deep red accents. If this shoe has taught us anything, it is that we, as polite, law-abiding customers are not to criticize, but “Hyperize” instead. However, I can’t help but scoff at Yi’s decision to jettison sunny Milwaukee for New Jersey, where I’m told all it does is rain . . . The Nike Hyperize Yi Jianlian PE will remain exclusive to the big fella for the foreseeable future.

Even though Derek Fisher is no longer as good of a basketball player as he once was, Fisher is still an integral aspect of the L.A. Lakers. Thus, Nike has decided to make two Nike Hyperize colorways for the Lakers’ starting point guard. The first pair, dubbed as the “Home” PE, features a white base with purple and gold accents, whiile the “Away” pair hosts a black pair with similar purple and gold accents. Unfortunately, the “Derek Fisher PE” Nike Hyperizes will never make their way to retailers near you, so just check out the pictures after the jump.

Oklahoma City Thunder star and Nike sponsored athlete Kevin Durant stood behind the Nike Hyperize after news emerged last week that the state of the art hoops shoe was banned by the Detroit Pistons athletic trainer after many players came down with ankle injuries while in the shoe.

Durant, who appeared in the Nike Hyperizers commercial earlier this year, had this to say about the shoe. “Ankle injuries can come from stepping on a guy’s foot or coming down on somebody. Rarely does it happen when you’re just running around on the court,” said Durant, who struggled with ankle injuries his first two seasons only because he landed on someone’s foot. “And sometimes it doesn’t matter what shoe you have on, so I don’t think that’s the issue. It just happens when you’re playing.”

Accusing one of Nike’s newest basketball sneakers, the Nike Hyperize, of “[taking] most of the support out of the sides,” Arnie Kander, the Detroit Pistons’ strength and conditioning coach, has banned the Nike Hyperize from the team locker room. Kander states that “most basketball shoes weigh between 1.4 and 1.7 pounds. These shoes were weighing 0.8 pounds, which was way too light as far as side support.” Kander cites ankle, knee and groin injuries to many of the Detroit Pistons as evidence that the sneaker does not provide adequate support to the feet. What are your thoughts? Did Arine Kander make the right decision by banning the Hyperize or should NBA players be allowed to wear whichever the sneakers they choose? Nike has released many all-pink sneakers in the past, and we now have a look at a Nike Hyperize Supreme decked out in a full pink patent leather and leather upper accented by a white midsole, white swoosh, and white laces. Nike is going even further with their service to Coach Kay Yow and the fight against cancer by donating a minimum of $2 to the Kay Yow/WCBA Cancer Fund to Support Breast Cancer Awareness and Research for each purchase of the “Coach Kay Yow” Nike Hyperize Supreme. This Hyperize is now available at select House of Hoops locations.
