Retaining the look and shape of the original, this Cortez features a grey leather upper alongside grey laces, white branding, and a white sole with a maroon midsole stripe.

As 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the Cortez, Nike has a number of drops set throughout the year to commemorate the occasion.

One such release is this set of drops featuring the Nike Classic Cortez Nylon. Sporting the classic look and shape of the original, these have nylon uppers alongside suede accents on the heel, eyelets, and toebox. Complete with a white sole, the kicks come in five separate colorways for Spring 2012.

The classic 1960′s Cortez has returned in OG form for 2012.

Made famous in Tom Hanks’ 1994 film “Forrest Gump”, the red, white, and blue colorway is back with a leather upper, nylon tongue with exposed padding, and old school tongue branding.

The ladies were treated to a “birch” nylon Cortez from Nike back in September. For 2012, the brand plans to continue producing them- especially in celebration of the fact that the upcoming year marks the 40th anniversary of the Nike Cortez’s introduction to the sneaker world. Next spring there will be three OG leather colorways in soft grey, navy and black uppers with a white Nike swoosh and minimal accents along the midsole. Expect these to drop at premium Nike carriers come Spring sneaker season.

Fashion company J.Crew has linked up with Nike for the Vintage Collection that can only be purchased at J.Crew. J.Crew and Nike used three iconic sneakers, the Cortez, Waffle Racer and Tennis Classic AC. The J.Crew x Nike Cortez and Waffle Racer uses nylon, leather and suede, while the Tennis Class AC features suede and perforated Nike Swoosh. Two colorways were produced in each model.
