Always a fan favorite, the Air Max 97 is returning for 2012.

Utilizing Nike’s “Vac Tech” look, these ditch the shiny black leather of the September Air Max 97 VT release in favor of dark grey perforated suede. A black mesh tongue and black laces complete the upper, which sits atop a white midsole and the obligatory full length Max Air unit.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything from the Nike Air Max 97 line up, but for fall/winter 2011 Nike brings us the all new Nike Air Max 97 Black/Challenge Red.

This release should come as a breath of fresh air for ’97 fans as the last time we saw the runner was with the release of the “Vac Tech” model. Sporting a black nubuck and mesh upper, the midsole, air unit, and back heel tab provides a more stunning red color blocking.

The Nike Air Max line is arguably the most beloved running/training sneaker line among sneakerhead circles worldwide. Whether new or OG colorway releases are dropping, it seems like you just can’t go wrong with this classic silhouette. Well, as we reported in 2009, the Nike team has come up with a new Air Max design- the Nike Air Max 24-7 previewed for you here. As true Nike Air Max fans will be able to tell, the upper draws cues from both the Nike Air Max 95 and 97, while the sole is a 360-degree air sole unit.
