As 2009 waits in the wings, Nike recently dropped a dark obsidian/white iteration of their timeless Air Max 90 runner. The shoe features a white midsole and Swoosh and is augmented by an Air Max unit embedded in the heel. Mesh lines the toebox. It is becoming quite evident as of late that Nike Sportswear is aiming towards making sneakers for the ladies that provide both comfort and style. Alongside the “Skinny” Dunk Highs previewed yesterday, Nike will also be releasing these two pairs of Air Max 90’s for the female sneakerheads. Both these pairs of Nike’s classic model, the Air Max 90, feature two of the most sought after materials on sneakers—patent leather and mesh. With the use of mesh on the toebox and the ankle support, this pair will definitely provide an extreme level of flexibility and comfort. The first colorway of the two yields a bright yellow base with a white swoosh, midsole, heel, and shoe lace region. The second colorway is extremely similar to the first with the exception of the use of purple instead of yellow. Expect both these pairs to be at your local Nike retailers in Spring 2009.

Building upon the iconic silhouette of the Air Max 90, Nike launches the Air Max Moire. “The Icon Design team is always looking to innovations created by our Sport Performance teams to give our icons a new and unique identity rooted in innovation first and foremost.” – Global Design Director Jessed Leyva.

In the name of innovation, this season’s Air Max 90 was remixed with technology born from the Air Zoom Moire, Nike’s first Nike+ enabled shoe. Developed by Mark Smith, the Moire’s laser cut ventilation system places perforated holes throughout the one piece no-sew upper to give strategically placed relief to hot spots around the foot while simultaneously drastically reducing overall weight.

Adopting the Moire’s innovations to the Air Max Current represents what Nike Sportswear is all about. The notion of Elastic Design, using iconic elements of the classic while pushing innovation and form through the use of technologies that simply did not exist when the original icon was first introduced. Through the fusing of Air Max Current’s platform, which utilizes natural motion, with an embroidered and laser-cut Zoom Moire upper yielded an entirely unique yet identifiably iconic continuation in the Air Max 90 lineage.

Through the use of a one layer no-sew upper, the Sportswear design team was able to embroider all the traditional lines of the iconic Air Max 90 in stitched perfection. Released in subtle tonal hues the Air Max Moire is set to keep things cool and comfortable for Spring and Summer.

Since the introduction of the Nike Air Max 90 Current, the Air Max 90 has taken on different shapes and forms including this Air Zoom Moire inspired set. Dubbed as the Nike Air Max 90 Premium Gray, this pair of Air Max 90’s is seen to have multiple shades of gray and various materials. The toe box is made of a dense gray mesh material, whereas the toe cap and midsection are in a different shade of gray. The midsole and outsole are also composed of dissimilar shades of gray. Nike Sportswear has provided a few interesting previews of upcoming styles, one that is quite appealing is the Air Max 90 above. This Air Max 90 is quite reminiscent of the popular mesh style that has become quite rare to see in Nike’s line-up. In addition, this Air Max 90 also sports a simple combination of sky blue on the tongue, sole, laces and heel while the rest of the sneaker features white. No word on a specific release date, but could be sometime next year.
