Yi Jianlian, New Jersey Nets forward and proud Asian man, has been rockin’ this player exclusive pair of Nike Hyperize this season in New Jerusalem. The Nike Basketball shoe features a clear middle, white toe, and varsity blue and deep red accents. If this shoe has taught us anything, it is that we, as polite, law-abiding customers are not to criticize, but “Hyperize” instead. However, I can’t help but scoff at Yi’s decision to jettison sunny Milwaukee for New Jersey, where I’m told all it does is rain . . . The Nike Hyperize Yi Jianlian PE will remain exclusive to the big fella for the foreseeable future.

Oklahoma City Thunder star and Nike sponsored athlete Kevin Durant stood behind the Nike Hyperize after news emerged last week that the state of the art hoops shoe was banned by the Detroit Pistons athletic trainer after many players came down with ankle injuries while in the shoe.

Durant, who appeared in the Nike Hyperizers commercial earlier this year, had this to say about the shoe. “Ankle injuries can come from stepping on a guy’s foot or coming down on somebody. Rarely does it happen when you’re just running around on the court,” said Durant, who struggled with ankle injuries his first two seasons only because he landed on someone’s foot. “And sometimes it doesn’t matter what shoe you have on, so I don’t think that’s the issue. It just happens when you’re playing.”

This weekend, a new House of Hoops location will be opening at the Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey. To celebrate the grand opening, the Cherry Hill HoH will be dropping the exclusive Philadelphia inspired pack of the Nike Hyperize. The first pair hosts a challenge red felt upper accented by royal blue laces, swoosh, and Nike logo on the heel. The second style yields a varsity maize upper with black and white accents, while the insole features a stars and stripes design. This Nike commercial features The Hyperizers, a fictitious group comprised of NBA studs Mo Williams (Fog Raw), Kevin Durant (Velvet Hoops), Rashard Lewis (Ice-O) and Andre Iguodala (Chief Blocka), kicks it funky on their first hit, “Don’t Criticize.” The advert is the perfect piece for the brand’s newest performance model, the Nike Hyperize. Yesterday, we shared with you the catalog images of the upcoming Nike Hyperize Decades Pack, and we now have a look at the actual sneakers. There will be four variations of the Nike Hyperize in this pack. The first pair is inspired by the Safari Air Max 1, and hosts a orange upper with safari, gum, and white accents. The second pair, inspired by the Infrared Air Max 90, yields a white upper with black and infrared accents. The third colorway is inspired by the Neon Air Max 95, and features a black upper with grey and neon accents. The final variation, inspired by the Penny Foamposite One, hosts a blue upper with black and white accents. Expect to see all four sneakers available for purchase in the coming months.

Nike Basketball continues to find inspiration at the movies. Earlier this summer, the BB crew released the Transformers Pack, a collection that borrowed cues from Transformers II. This Nike Hyperize Mid “Destro” immediately draws comparisons to Destro, the villain in the latest G.I. Joe flick. ‘Stro’s silver mask is mirrored by the shoe’s shiny silver patent front, while his black/red/gold make’s up the rest of the Hyperize’s upper. The evildoer’s “Cobra” insignia is affixed to the shoe’s tongue. Nike will release the Hyperize “Destro” later this Summer.
