This year has been a big one for the expansion of House of Hoops locations both stateside and overseas. Two weekends ago we saw a new House of Hoops open up in Houston, with an array of exclusive sneakers like a Houston Hyperize pack made available for sale in commemoration of the event. This Sunday October 25, 2009, the Mall at Prince Georges’ FootLocker store in Hyattsville, Maryland will officially become a House of Hoops. Grand opening events will run from 2:00 to 4:00PM, with special guest Caron Butler of the Washington Wizards making an appearance. As always, there will be a slew of limited sneakers made available in conjunction with the grand opening; and, among those shoes will be the metallic silver-black/purple Nike Air Bakin Retro we recently previewed for you. If you’re going to be in the area, then it might be a very good idea for you to swing by, check out some shoes, be among other sneaker enthusiasts, and maybe even exchange pleasantries with Caron Butler.

When Nike puts its mind to commemorating a certain person and/or event, it usually goes all out and does it right. Take the pair of London and Paris Nike Hyperize’s as an example. They released in the New York House of Hoops in celebration of House of Hoops expanding to both overseas cities. This weekend, yet another House of Hoops location opens up- this time in Houston. In celebration of this opening, the Nike Hyperize Houston Pack made up of two colorways pictured here will go on sale this Saturday at the grand opening’s location: Northline Mall in Houston, Texas. Following the July release of the Transformers II pack, the G.I. Joe pack is set to release exclusively at Footlocker House of Hoops locations in August. Similar to the movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra is expected to be another summer blockbuster, complete with a dedicated detailed shoe package. Within this package is the Nike Sharkalaid, executed in the likeness of Storm Shadow, Cobra Commander’s personal ninja bodyguard and assassin. The Storm Shadow Sharkalaid is comprised of a white upper, accented with black laces, straps, and the Cobra Command emblem on the tongue. Lastly, a translucent “shadow” sole completes what is my opinion one of the most well executed Nike Sharkalaid colorways to date. Expect to see these as well the rest of the G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra package mid-August exclusively at Footlocker House of Hoops locations.

After seeing the first look at the Nike Zoom Kobe IV (4) MLK Player Exclusive, we have come up with an update of the purple/gold/white shoe. The Nike Zoom Kobe IV MLK, the ZK4’s that KB24 wore on MLK day, are House of Hoops exclusives, and will be for sale this Friday, May 8th, at the shady HOH. These shoes are the first Kobe’s to feature the gradient design on the toebox, and having gold as the secondary color sure helps make this basketball shoe a collector’s item. So be sure to get in line early for the ZK4’s so you can own a piece of NBA history.

Ray Allen is one of the luckiest athletes in the NBA due to the fact that he is sponsored by Jordan Brand and never has to worry about not looking fresh on the courts. We have seen him in multiple Air Jordan player exclusives including the Air Jordan 11 (XI)  - Ray Allen PE and the Air Jordan 23 (XX3) – Ray Allen PE. This time, Ray Allen has a player exclusive colorway of the Air Jordan 2.5 which features the typical Boston Celtics’ white/green color scheme. A little while ago, we gave you a preview of the Nike Zoom MVP and now we have detailed pictures of another colorway that is currently available. At first glance, it may seem as though this pair is a running shoe due to its low cut and lightweight design, but you will be surprised to know that this is a pair of basketball shoes that provides enough ankle support for some of the best guards in the world such as Steve Nash. This lowcut design is becoming prevalent in some of Nike Basketball’s recent releases such as the new Nike Zoom Kobe IV. Though the design is great for guards, there is a bit of uncertainty in regards to providing enough ankle support for the big men in the post. This colorway of the Nike Zoom MVP features a white base with purple and orange accents reminiscent of the colors of the Phoenix Suns. Sporting a purple outsole, a speckled midsole, and Steve Nash’s logo, this pair definitely stands out as one of Nike’s brightest releases in a while. Earlier in the month the House of Hoops expanded from solely New York and Los Angles to Chicago. The House of Hoops kicked off their grand opening with the release of exclusive models as well as a performance by Common and other acts. Common was in attendance to perform “Universal Mind Control” off his upcoming album. In addition to Common, a few Chicago Bulls stopped by including forward Drew Gooden and guard Larry Hughes. Gooden’s Nike Power Max hit the Chicago House of Hoops in addition to more limited edition sneakers. The Chicago House of Hoops is located inside the North Riverside Park Mall in Chicago, Illinois.
