This Friday, June 10th, the UNDFTD x Puma California Canvas Clyde pack will hit select Puma retailers.

All four pairs come draped in canvas uppers in great color options for any sneakerhead to enjoy. The leather stripe panels are offset in bright contrasting colors on the medial side panel while the opposite remains the same color as the upper. Both company logos are present on the tongue tab and insole as well.

Images from Walt “Clyde” Frazier’s book, “Rockin’ Steady: A Guide to Basketball & Cool” were recently placed on online. In these photos, you’ll see Clyde doin’ his thing — looking groovy, really — in the PUMA Clyde.

Japanese retailer Mita linked up with PUMA to produce a limited Clyde. The shoe’s blue/black color scheme mimics Japan’s “Land of the Rising Sun” flag motif to produce an effect that’s visually arresting and functional in the fashion department. The Clyde features a black suede toebox and checkered outsole tread. A white PUMA stripe and shoestrings round out the collaborative effort. The PUMA Mita Clyde is available now exclusively at Mita.

The PUMA Clyde resurfaced a couple years ago in reissued format, much to the delight of yours truly. Adam Leaventon, the brand’s Director of Merchandising, was excited, too, and created a few pairs of one-offs for himself and his closest cronies. (There are no plans to release any of these shoes–they are exclusives.) Via Bounce.

DJ Emz appeared prominently in Where’d You Get Those?” New York Sneaker Culture: 1960-1987 (Testify Publishing) and is world-renowned both for his quiver of carefully preserved vintage grips and his work behind the boards and in the production room. The NYC native selected a grey upper with a burgundy stripe to match. His moniker, “King EMZ” is etched onto the upper.



Leaventon got luscious with his exclusive, blending two light shades of green into a concoction meaner than my granmom’s cheesecake recipe! “Air Rev” rides above the stripe. Rev found the burgundy/white/black toebox pair on a defunct Japanese website called “Tomahawk Chop” and recreated them; if there’s a pair that might release out of the Tribute Pack, I’d place my money on these. (Don’t bet on it, though…)



Rounding out the rarities is a pair dedicated to undercover sneaker legend, “Morg.” Air Leaventon explains the mysterious ‘head as, “A sneaker culture icon whose humble beginnings as a parkball player in Upstate NY trying to emulate Connie Hawkins (42) led him to the sneaker business during the infancy stage of the industry. Best described as separated at birth from Bobbito Garcia and sent to Cortland NY to live the rural lifestyle. His path eventually led him back to his roots meeting up with Garcia for a collaboration in 2009 that celebrates their collective passion for basketball and waffles as well as fresh squeezed orange juice.”

PUMA has done it folks; nope, they haven’t walked on the moon, nor have they found a way to make the pointless banter on The View culturally relevant or important. Rather, the brand has created a limited version of the their classic Clyde–in size 45 UK. The gigantic lowtop is comprised of geniune leather and is available at Solebox and exclusive PUMA accounts worldwide. Via Kenlu.

Puma once again delivers another intriguing packages with a surprising background. This time around Puma draws inspiration from Japanese monster movies from the 1950’s through the 1970’s to create the “Japanese Monster Pack” for 2009.  Puma chooses some of their classics to make-up the new collection and includes the Clyde, First Round, Stepper, and Puma Mid. Each sneaker is characterized with unique characteristics and features that pertain to each monster. Check out all five sneakers after the jump. Release is scheduled for March. Via hb.

Thirty years later and Puma still has a hit on their hands with the Clyde, originally designed for Walt “Clyde” Fraizer. The ongoing collection of the Puma Clyde continues to expand with a collaboration involving mita sneakers. The Puma Clyde is given the “rising sun” design as implemented by Vans with their Hosoi models. However, instead of using white, red and black, Puma decides to include black, white and blue.  The sneakers consist of a black suede toe with black sun rays and a white logo stripe. The mita sneakers x Puma Clyde will be available on January 2nd, 2009 at mita and limited to only 185 pairs. Retail is set for approximately $208 USD.
