Japanese retailer Mita linked up with PUMA to produce a limited Clyde. The shoe’s blue/black color scheme mimics Japan’s “Land of the Rising Sun” flag motif to produce an effect that’s visually arresting and functional in the fashion department. The Clyde features a black suede toebox and checkered outsole tread. A white PUMA stripe and shoestrings round out the collaborative effort. The PUMA Mita Clyde is available now exclusively at Mita.

The PUMA Clyde resurfaced a couple years ago in reissued format, much to the delight of yours truly. Adam Leaventon, the brand’s Director of Merchandising, was excited, too, and created a few pairs of one-offs for himself and his closest cronies. PUMA has done it folks; nope, they haven’t walked on the moon, nor have they found a way to make the pointless banter on The View culturally relevant or important. Rather, the brand has created a limited version of the their classic Clyde–in size 45 UK. Puma once again delivers another intriguing packages with a surprising background. This time around Puma draws inspiration from Japanese monster movies from the 1950’s through the 1970’s to create the “Japanese Monster Pack” for 2009.  Puma chooses some of their classics to make-up the new collection and includes the Clyde, First Round, Stepper, and Puma Mid. Thirty years later and Puma still has a hit on their hands with the Clyde, originally designed for Walt “Clyde” Fraizer. The ongoing collection of the Puma Clyde continues to expand with a collaboration involving mita sneakers. The Puma Clyde is given the “rising sun” design as implemented by Vans with their Hosoi models. However, instead of using white, red and black, Puma decides to include black, white and blue.  The sneakers consist of a black suede toe with black sun rays and a white logo stripe. The mita sneakers x Puma Clyde will be available on January 2nd, 2009 at mita and limited to only 185 pairs. Retail is set for approximately $208 USD.

Nike surely isn’t the only company scheduled to have some big releases, Puma has shown bits and pieces of what we can expect from them next year and the Break Point Collection will be available starting next year. The Break Point Collection redesigns the classic styles of the Clyde and Stepper with new color schemes and material choices. Both are available in a selection of colors including green and purple in reference to Wimbledon. Other tennis elements can be found in the collection including perforations relating to traditional tennis attire. The Puma Clyde will be available in March while the Stepper will hit stores in April. Via Vagant.

Many sneaker companies will be celebrating monumental years and Puma will be taking part in the festivities. Puma will be launching a new package starting next year that will combine style with class. Classic Puma styles will be revamped to suit the Limited Edition 60th Anniversary Vintage Pack and will include vintage leather versions of the Clyde, Easy Rider, and Top Winner.  This Vintage Pack revolves around a central theme of shades of brown  which corresponds to the Leather Grip Bag. Release is scheduled for the Spring 2009 season in March.
