Held annually in late January in Australia and New Zealand, the Big Day Out is an music festival showcasing popular contemporary rock music, electronic music, mainstream and local acts. The Big Day Out started in Sydney in 1992 and has spread to several other cities since then. This special edition Converse Chuck Taylor All Star consists of an all white upper with a red mid-sole stripe and Big Day Out written at the back heel. Converse has been around in the sneaker industry for 100 years now and in order to celebrate, they are releasing Chuck Taylor’s dedicated to classic rock bands. This pair is dedicated to The Doors, an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles. The Doors were a pretty successful band and sold over 32 million albums in the US alone. These Chuck Taylor’s are highlighted by the image of the lead vocalist in the band, Jim Morrison. His image is portrayed on the upper of these sneakers and is completely in black/white. In attempt to gain the attention of sneaker-heads, colette and GAP used their concept store campaign to team up with a few sneaker companies including Onitsuka Tiger and Converse, seen above. Using the iconic Chuck Taylor as the the base, the sneaker continues with the black/yellow caution theme, while also fighting for a good cause in the process. The Converse 1HUNDR(RED) campaign extends through the year and has called on Dutch brand Wood Wood to collaboration on the latest Chuck Taylor. Having a monochromatic feel to it, the sneakers are made up of gray canvas, suede, 1HUND(RED) red eyelets, and custom tagging. Furthermore, other details include the Wood Wood star map patter lining the inside of the sneaker as well as branding on the tongue. Release is scheduled for October 1st, 2008 at a select accounts.
