Mita, a Japanese retailer, is no stranger to collaborations- especially with Asics. Less than a year removed from this same pairing’s 2008 campaign for the Gel Lyte III, September 5, 2009 marks the release date of this familiar duo’s latest collaborative work. The Gel-Lyte Speed is set to drop in a colorway inspired by the relaxing feel we all seem to associate with “Tropical” areas. Hitting stores just as summer should be wrapping up, these kicks consist of a predominantly grey base with bright red, pink, blue and yellow accents. Limited to a reported 500 pairs, getting your hands on a pair of these might be as elusive as that tropical vacation I’m sure we could all use. We last saw a clean Asics Gel Lyte Speed Grey Goose version that used a minimum of regular colors. But, this time around, the Asics Gel Lyte Speed has been inspired to follow a condimental colorway. This mustard and ketchup-like red shoe is matched nicely with a black nubuck toe and midsole. The shoe also consists of mesh material and the Gel Lyte Speed name is stamped on the side to make its mark. This will be available in September to satisfy your hungers.

Asics has really done well for themselves these past few weeks. With two solid collaboration models under their belt (working with Nice Kicks and Cultureshoq), the Japanese athletic company has hit another home run with the latest version of their Asics Gel Lyte Speed. Dubbed the ‘Grey Goose’, the most prominent feature of the colorway is the red and white striping found on the midsole and laces. On top of that, the upper features some reflective 3M paneling — a rather stark contrast to the predominantly suede shoe. The eye popping Gel Lyte Speed colorway should be making its way into stores this September.

We last saw the Asics Gel Lyte Speed Spring 2009 collection in a small preview. Here we have the Asics Gel Lyte Speed in the white/black/turquoise colorway up close and personal. This colorway is perhaps the best of the three, with its smooth black leather with white and turquoise contrasts, split tongue, and turquoise speckled midsole. This collection is set to drop a week from now so get your old Asics’ on and go get ‘em!
