The Superstar has become a well known icon in the sneaker world and has even been modified for adidas‘ Skateboarding line. The Superstar has been featured in a few styles and now gets treated in grey suede with white and black stripes complimenting the solid upper. In addition, the vulcanized sole adds comfort will last a long time, the idea combination for almost any skate shoe. Release is slated for sometime later this month. If you’re like me, you spend many a sleepless night pondering the managerial moves of sneaker companies. (I hope you’re not like me.) A large portion of my gloaming twilight is spent discerning why some products release, and then where some pundits gathered the data necessarty to recieve the go-ahead to manufacutre a design. And in all seriousness, I was about to “Lose Control” when I saw these adidas Missy Elliot Remix Ultra-Highs. Really Missy? This is hardly Supa Dupa Fly. I’m one of the biggest adidas fans on the Internet–I’m behind the Brotherhood campgain, Creator, Thrillrahna and Bounce product 110%. But I can’t “Get My Freak On” (Nor would I want any girl I associate myself with to, either.) in this dual-strapped, lacelet-laden, Shelltoed monstrosity. Please, don’t “Sock This 2 Me” again! With its raised sidewalls, patent rand, and unfettered colorblocking, the adidas Professor proved to be a highly sought after commodity after the mid released in 2007. As a member of the Team USA Men’s Basketball Trial squad, Wizards forward Antwan Jamison was blessed with this white/blue/red version of the shoe. “USA” is inscribed along the upper ridge of the collar. Journeyman drive the latest Mercedes Benz to practice; journeyman also get hit off with player exclusives. Kurt Thomas, no slight on the big guy, is the epitome of the voyaging NBA’er, peregrinating from team to team, collecting checks, making money, contributing to his team when necessary, and having a pretty good time with goldigging women at the club. (Jeff Garcia, didn’t T.O. call you gay? Hope you’re not too displeased!) Carmellas and Carmelos aside, KT is a member of the vaunted adidas Brotherhood. In ‘06, the brand hit him off with a gorgeous white/blue/orange iteration of a3 Clutch Mid, a racing inspired shoe complimented by heel-oriented a3 struts creating a delightful feel underfoot. Comfortable and easy on the eyes. (I’m thinking Jeff Garcia again.) Thomas’s initials are stitched on the ankle strap, while his number 40 is inscribed on the heel. Released in 2006, socio-documentary Just For Kicks analyzed the global sneaker phenomenon, pointing out the underlying forces and layers that fueled the global market that nets nearly $26 billion per year. The film features appearances from Bobbito Garcia, Raekwon, and Damon Dash, who all contribute hilarious personal anecdotes and unique diatribes to the film.  Combine this with thought-provoking statistics, and you have an incredibly compelling piece of visual work.  That same year, adidas worked collaboratively with JFK’s producers to draft up a special limited release of the brand’s iconic Superstar.  Toned up in a monochromatic white/white color scheme, the shoe if enhanced by a “Just For Kicks” engraving that reads from lace-to-midsole along the model’s three stripes logo. Billups in his Pistons-toned adidas TS Creator Mid. 

In a trade that seemingly came out of left field, veteran guard Allen Iverson of the Denver Nuggets was shipped to the Detroit Pistons for clutch shooting guard Chauncey Billups, reliable forward Antonio McDyess, and rookie Cheikh Samb. I wondered whether adidas and Reebok would be ready to suit up their two signature studs in footwear to match their new uniforms–each company had only days to manufacture new product for their players. Saturday night provided us with an answer, (Pun not intended!) with Billups rocking out in a Pistons-themed blue/red/white iteration of his adidas TS Creator Mid and Iverson switching between the ‘07 and Answer XII (7). Both athletes have been rewarded significantly by their sponsor companies, each recieving their own product for the 2008 season. (CB recieves only his own colorway, mind you. adidas will be transforming their popular indoor soccer shoe The Samba to a more skateboarding-esque model tailored to the needs of the everyday skater. The Samba ST will undergo a few changes including a Geo fit collar cushioning and a long lasting upper. The Samba ST will consist of a grey upper, white stripes and orange laces accents offering both looks and functionality. Look for these to be released in the coming weeks at adidas skate retailers.
