We kicked off November, partially, by bringing you a closer look at the adidas Five Two-3 Plant Pack. Now, we have another collection from the adidas Five Two-3 campaign known as the “City Artist” collection because a specific artist was chosen to represent their city through the designing of an adidas shoe. Dalek is representing NYC with a pair of Forum mids, London’s Pochoir worked on the Superstar, and France’s KRSN applied his style onto the Stan Smith. Finally, Madsaki represents for Osaka, Japan through the Samba and Fasko does it through the Nizza high. Certain retailers already have all five of these sneakers in stock, so check out pix of the rest of the collection after the jump before deciding whether or not to try and purchase one or all of them.

adidas 80's Pack

The 1980s was defined by the fall of the Berlin Wall, the ascent of good hip-hop, and the prevalence of questionable fashion and dubious rock music. Michael Jackson was “Beating It” and fashion-first sneakerheads were adidas-ed down. The ’80s proved to be a crucial decade for The Brand With Three Stripes, as the adidas Stan Smith, Superstar, and Campus all remained popular cornerstones on store shelves and on peeps feet. To properly celebrate the period, the brand is releasing the aforementioned models in the exact materials and colorways they released in nearly 30 years (Yikes!) ago in the aptly named “adidas 80’s Pack.” Expect to see the shoes at your favorite adidas retailer soon. Long before St. Louie’s Nelly and his “Derrty” cohorts coined, “Stompin’ in my Air Force 1’s,” NYC-based triumvirate Run DMC proclaimed, “My ADIDAS!” The group’s campaign was harmonized around the adidas Superstar skyrocketing the shelltoed shoe to, err, superstardom in the sales department. (Alliteration much?) Decades later, Adi is reissuing the shoe in a materials-similar format, much like they did with the Originals “Vintage” campaign a year back. This time around, the casual will be available in white/black and black/green/white and is scheduled for a December 13 drop at atmos.

Released in 2006, socio-documentary Just For Kicks analyzed the global sneaker phenomenon, pointing out the underlying forces and layers that fueled the global market that nets nearly $26 billion per year. The film features appearances from Bobbito Garcia, Raekwon, and Damon Dash, who all contribute hilarious personal anecdotes and unique diatribes to the film.  Combine this with thought-provoking statistics, and you have an incredibly compelling piece of visual work.  That same year, adidas worked collaboratively with JFK’s producers to draft up a special limited release of the brand’s iconic Superstar.  Toned up in a monochromatic white/white color scheme, the shoe if enhanced by a “Just For Kicks” engraving that reads from lace-to-midsole along the model’s three stripes logo. You can win this pair on eBay here.
