Nike's We Run Race Series Returns to Malaysia

On Oct. 13, Nike’s We Run race returns to Malaysia to inspire, support and connect runners. Malaysia will be the 14th city out of the 32 on the We Run schedule.

The runners are part of a global We Run race movement, which will see a total of 395,500 runners participating. They will forge a new global community of athletes through Nike’s most connected race series yet with innovative Nike+ technology. The We Run race series kicked off on Sept. 1 in Prague, Czech Republic, and will conclude Dec. 15 in Santiago, Chile.

This year’s Malaysia race will be very different from previous Nike’s We Run races held. It will be the first evening run within the heart of Kuala Lumpur city. The Nike We Run KL 10k race is set to flag off from Jalan Ampang at 5.30 pm and finish at the race village in Dataran Merdeka. Last year, the Nike We Run KL closed out 10,000 slots in a record-breaking 60 hours, which remains to be the fastest race to close out ever in Malaysia till today. Due to the overwhelming popularity and demand of the race, the capacity has been increased to 15,000. All spots were snapped up on the first day registration opened.

Participants can expect a unique and memorable experience as they will be running against the backdrop of some of Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic buildings such as the KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers. Other than the breathtaking views, runners can also immerse themselves with an exhilarating experience of different genres of music at designated entertainment zones along the route. The race village will see an explosion of entertainment acts by some of the biggest names in the local music industry, with exciting activities runners can engage and connect with to complete the runners’ experience. This year, participants who finish the race will also earn an exclusive finisher’s tee on top of the usual race tee – more ways to remember their experience by.

To help runners go the distance, and build up their confidence towards race day, Nike will host training sessions around Klang Valley. The training sessions are designed to help runners get the best out of themselves and to be mentally and physically prepared for race day. Runners can expect to see the likes of local athletes and celebrities joining the fun, making each session unique.

“This year’s edition of We Run KL 10k, Nike wants to create an experience like no other. We are excited with the prospect of an evening race and we want every runner to feel good about themself. They will be part of a special community of runners who will be taking part globally in the We Run race series. What will make this a truly unique experience is that the runners will be connected through Nike+, a global community where you can share your personal achievements, gain encouragement as you work towards your goal. And with that being said, this effectively makes Nike+ one of the biggest running communities in the world. ” said Nike’s Country Marketing Manager, Joan Yeoh.
