French fashion meets American heritage for the first time with the introduction of the Maison Martin Margiela x Converse Collection.
On Wednesday, September 11, 2013, Converse celebrated its all-new collection with avant-garde French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela with a launch event at the Swiss Institute during New York Fashion Week.
Guests enjoyed music in the contemporary space by renowned fashion writer DJ Glenn O’Brien, DJ Aaron Bondaroff and the Know WaveCrew. Notable guests in attendance included R&B Artist Ne-Yo, Actor Cuba Gooding Jr., Designer Chris Benz, Celebrity Stylist June Ambrose, DJ’s Mia Moretti and Caitlin Moe, Stylist Nicola Formichetti, President of Only The Brave (OTB) Renzo Rosso, Actress Kat Graham, DJ Becka Diamond, Public School founders Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osbourne. Guests received a first look at the new Converse Maison Martin Margiela collection through a conceptual showcase documenting the revel-inspired process.
The first-time Converse Maison Martin Margiela collaboration features the Chuck Taylor All Star and the Jack Purcell sneakers, each completely hand-painted in Maison Martin Margiela’s iconic white paint. Covering all canvas, eyelets, laces and soles, they naturally crack and shed their outer coat of paint to reveal the original colors beneath. The more the sneakers are worn, the more their personality and color is revealed. The Converse Maison Martin Margiela sneakers are available for purchase globally at Maison Martin Margiela boutiques, and also at select Converse First String retailers for a suggested retail price of $200 USD.
