Vans is definitely taking influence from certain cultures and putting them on its staple silhouettes. First there was the Mexican Blanket pack earlier this month. Now, there’s a Fringe pack for the Vans Sk8-Hi, which takes influence from Native American tribes. The Vans Sk8-Hi comes in golden brown and black colorways, using full suede uppers with moccasin style stitching at the toe and side panel. The Vans stripe is given a cross-stitched makeover to really enforce the theme. The tongue features a colorful tribal patch, and the ankle is dressed with tassles that will definitely be flying when doing a trick in mid-air. These Sk8-Hi’s are available now for about $183 each.

The Vans Chukka Low gets the Syndicate treatment, as the Vans Syndicate Chukka Low comes in an A LA VIE/LAND pack. The pack consists of the Chukka low in green and blue colorways. Vans is taking it up a notch with its release of the White Label Edition sneakers. The Vans Half Cab has been given the white label treatment in three colorways: brick, midnight navy, and black. The Vans Half Cab Pro features uppers with a mix of leather and suede in their respective main colors. White labels have been added instead of the usual black labels. Of course, white black-striped midsoles are in the mix to make these shoes look clean. To add to the detail, the back heel panel comes perforated in suede, making these skate shoes sweet buys. Thanks to Jahan Loh, the Vans brand made a big splash recently with a pair of Mountain Mid’s. However, we now have shots of two pairs of Vans Sk8 Mid WR’s that just dropped as part of the brand’s fall/winter collection. One pair is done up in predominantly grey suede with slight white accents, while the second comes in predominantly black with very few blue touches. What’s perhaps more enticing about these pairs of Sk8 Mid’s is the fact that they are decked with cotton inner lining for comfort and protection from the cold, because we all know that skateboarders must skateboard- regardless of weather. Yesterday we had a small preview of the collabo between artist Jahan Loh and Vans. Today, we’ve been blessed with a detailed look at their resulting project: the Jahan Loh x Vans Mountain Mid. This limited edition comes in a clean black/purple colorway, using black snakeskin leather throughout the shoe, mainly on the strap. Underneath the strap is Jahan’s signature in purple to match the purple tongue. The midsole is white with a black vulcanized toe, and the Vans Jahan Logo is stitched at the side to make this collabo complete. This is a very limited release, kept to 200 in quantity in Taiwan.

Not too long ago we saw the adidas Originals line draw from the rich African heritage and design a set of sneakers sure to remind many people of the different cultures on that continent. Now, it is Vans searching for cultural influence. The pair of Vans Slip-On’s and Sk8 Hi’s pictured here are part of a “Mexican Blanket” collection reportedly dropping during the 2009 holiday season at certain Vans retailers. The same pattern that envelopes this pair of Slip-On’s can be seen on the middle and back of the Sk8 Hi’s, leaving more room towards the front for a purple suede upper with red shoe laces. Check in with several Vans retailers as different ones have already begun to receive this collection and are ready for sale.
