Julius Winfield Erving II was born on February 22, 1950 in Roosevelt, New York. Julius received his formative hoops education on New York City streets, competing under the scorching sun in rugged asphalt competitions to improve his game and augment his hops. The 6’7” 210 lbs forward’s precise work ethic earned him the nickname “Doctor” and a scholarship to Massachusetts, where he averaged 26.3 points and 20.2 rebounds over the course of short-lived yet illustrious NCAA career. After he jettisoned the college ranks, Erving got involved with the Virginia Squires, an ABA franchise. He then signed with the Atlanta Hawks, logging three games with the mystical “Pistol” Pete Maravich; a legal injunction forced him back into his contract with the Squires, but it wasn’t for naught. Erving flourished in relative obscurity out east, averaging a career best 31.9 points per game in his rookie campaign.

Dwyane Wade is appearing in the NBA All Star Game for the fifth consecutive this year. Wade has been spotted on the side lines coaching at this years All Star Weekend in trendy shoes, but will be breaking out the Converse WADE Slash tonight when starting for the Eastern Conference All Stars. Getting its name from Wade’s explosive style of play, the WADE Slash features a white based with navy accents and light blue highlights. Converse’s last Skateboarding drop yielded the ERX 300 and CTS OX in a black, red and gold color scheme. Converse follows up their January collection with the ERX 300 Hi and CTS OX once again and adding the Reverse OX to the line. A common theme on the three new styles is a black, white and yellow palette. Each sneaker sports mostly black with highlights of yellow and white added for color. You can now find all three Converse Skateboarding sneakers at Overkill and other Converse retailers.

The Converse x Original Jams – Skidgrip Mid was previewed earlier this month, and we are now receiving word that the aforementioned mid tops will release alongside its low top counterpart, the Converse Skidgrip Low. The Skidrip Mid features a green upper with multicolored accents and a clean white midsole. The Skidgrip Low from this Jams Pack yields an extremely colorful base which sits on top of an orange stripe and a white midsole. An interesting aspect of this pack is the fact that both pairs come with a plethora of extra laces to fit all your colorful needs. Converse is joining in those ranks now with their newest pack of sneakers from their Japan series. Featuring four different colorways of the Marine Sea Crisp, Converse has made a pair for everyone. The overall composition of the model is quite simple and yields a tonal canvas upper with a white midsole, white laces, and a unique gingham inner liner. Jeff Staple’s iconic Pigeon logo and colorway appears once again in a collaboration involving Converse’s Sea Star. The sneakers are constructed out of leather and suede on the upper with a rip-stop collar and finished off with the unmistakable grey, red, white and black color scheme with the Pigeon found on the tongue. Though this Sea Star may not be as limited as past Staple releases, expect them to go fast. Release is scheduled for this Saturday, February 7th at retailers including Kicks/HI.
