Bape recently announced that they’d be opening up an online webstore, where presumably, you can go to purchase the latest from Nigo’s ultra-limited, overdesigned products at exorbitant prices. Bathing Ape pundits add that the independent company might be struggling to stay afloat in these times of economic struggle–what do you think? Is the digital store a calculated move, an attempt at maximizing profits in a time of financial downturn or has the brand finally decided to aid customers looking for product? In 2008, Bape released a Spongebob-themed version of the Bapesta. World-renowned Hypebeast Pharrell Williams was just spotted with an unreleased Squarepants version that features a croc leather upper and gum bottom. It’s more than likely that Pharrell’s pair of A Bathing Ape Croc SpongeBob Bapestas will never hit shelves. Via BBC.

While the Nike Air Force 1 has played a huge part of the success of A Bathing Ape even causing quite a bit of controversy, the brand has also taking cues from other iconic sneakers including the adidas Superstar. The Skullsta doesn’t sport the classic three stripes design, but rather incorporates signature logos including the Bape logo on the tongue and the star on the sides of the sneaker. Here’s a look at the newest arrivals at Japanese Bape locations. The Bapesta88 has released in high top and low top form featuring two different color schemes available on both styles. Some of the similar colors found on both colorways are blue, yellow, red and white. Each model sports the Bape logo wrapped around the heel and other branding found on the tongue and midsole. After releasing a series of flake-o-riffic variant Air Force 1s that left the hip-hop fashion world in a disturbing tailspin of inelegant color combination and Phillistine patterns), Bape has sought to diversify both their apparel and footwear catalogs. The end result is the the Bape Sta Boot, a stable product fit for the perils of city streets and blustery wintertime temperatures. Featuring a wavy, crepe-colored midsole, the Sta Boot is mocked up in premium leathers and features a reinforced ankle collar. The brand’s shooting star logo graces the model’s midfoot. The boot will hit stateside retailers in Spring 2009 in a chocolate/beige color scheme and black/dark grey colorway. However, the Bape Big Sta Boot is available now in Japan and can be purchased at online retailer CliffEdge.
