The Air Jordan 11 “Bred” 1996, aka “Playoffs,” was released on April 1, 1996, and retailed for $125. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, this was the first Jordan 11 to feature the classic Chicago Bulls colors: Black and Red. The original pair was a hit in ’96, and they instantly sell out whenever the brand re-releases them.

Air Jordan 11 Bred 1996 History

This pair was legendary because Michael Jordan wore them to defeat the Seattle Supersonics to win his fourth NBA Championship.

Upon its initial release, the “Bred” Air Jordan 11 was known as the Black and Red due to its colors. However, the nickname would eventually change to “Playoffs” since Michael Jordan wore them in the 1996 NBA Playoffs. In the mid-2000s, message boards were popular, and the nickname “Bred” was coined due to abbreviation. This moniker was formed by combining its colors: B (Black) and Red. Many disliked the name, but it eventually caught on, so much that some would call any colorway of the Jordan 11 “Bred.”

Dressed in the classic Black, True Red, and White color scheme. It is constructed with high-cut Black patent leather, which has peaks. More Black drapes, the mesh and leather upper, tongues, and laces. Next, True Red fills in the Jumpman on the ankle and across the translucent rubber outsole. White appears on the Phylon midsole, and Jordan’s number 23 on the heels. Other details include Nike Air branding on the insoles and a carbon fiber mid-foot shank plate.

When released in 1996, the “Bred,” aka “Playoff” Air Jordan 11, came in a Brown and Red Nike box with Black tissue paper.

Unfortunately, the 1996 “Bred” 11 is no longer wearable. You must reglue the outsole to the midsole and the midsole to the upper. But the good news is that you won’t have to replace the midsole.
