Giving goods to poor countries does nothing except ruin their economies and leave them in a constant state of being subsidized by others. For every pair of shoes that's given away for free to these countries, a job is lost by the hard working citizens of that country who are perfectly capable of making and selling shoes on their own. This is the exact same reason Africa hasn't improved despite trillions of dollars being spent. We've crippled the desire for them to have an economy of their own since there's no way they can be profitable when so many organizations are giving them things for free. In an effort to appear charitable, first world nations are actually causing far more harm than good with their internationalist aid policies.

Geez, Ricky. Are you really saying child labor, which is a form of slavery, is ok because at least they're being fed? Really??

Using your logic, slavery in early America was wrong, but at least the slaves were fed...come on, man!

And to answer your question, would they be doing if Nike, adidas, Reebok, etc. weren't there? Probably not working in unsafe environments, making shoes that cost 5 bucks, only to be sold for 125 bucks. The bottom line is American companies SHOULD NOT endorse any kind of abusive labor practices. EVER.

60 years ago the United States banned child labor, sweatshops, long workdays and workweeks. But now we are subsidizing, encouraging and failing to criticize the enslavement of young people in the Third World.

but at least they're eating, right ricky? go to hell. Phil Knight will keep a nice warm place for you.

^^^yet you are on this website dedicated to shoes companies that take advantage of the poor. Nike brings jobs to poor countries, which in turn generate income for the poor. What if Nike was not there to take advantage of the poor, what of them? So is it right for Nike to take advantage? No, but it does give some food on the table where there was none before.
