Though his renderings are now several years old, Nike Basketball designer Jason “Alphaproject” Petrie gained notoriety on NikeTalk for posting up portraits that challenged the outer limits of the sneaker realm, and subsequently, captured the Asimovian heart nestled deep within all of us. It was the hybrid before the hybrids, the original performance fusion before the Jumpman inundated the market with a bevy of retrograde-inspired products. And unfortunately, the AJ1 Evo tops anything the brand has released–I’m sorry, this joint is sick, and visually, far outweighs the Flight 23, B’2Rue, or Quattro Trainer. Alphaproject’s blueprint was distinguished by an externalized heel TPU cut-out that is reminiscent of the XX2. (Remember, Petrie crafted this up in ‘01 or so…) The Evolution also offered up independently anchored ankle panels that tightened or loosened depending on the wearer’s preference. Finish it off with a timeless white/black/red color scheme, and you’ve got a classic render! Via NikeTalk.
