Most Sneaker stores in major cities are mostly for the Male connoisseur. But have You ever walked into a men’s boutique with your lady and she was bored because it was only a men’s boutique and there was nothing available for women? Well, on the North Side of Chicago, there is a store for both men and women called Solemates Chicago. Where You and your lady can come in and cop the latest in retro kicks that are hard to find. Or maybe, you can just cop the latest urban fashion for you and your girl.
I spoke to Brian, Owner of Solemates. He says, “The name Solemates came from a husband and wife kind of team and we’re both sneakerheads so we incorporated the ’sole’ in to the original word ’soulmates’ and changed it to solemates, because we both like shoes, the tradition, and just being around the culture of sneakers and street wear.”
The sneaker availability is pretty diverse. It ranges from Ice Creams, Nike Dunks, Air Jordan and OG Jordans, SB Dunks, Air Forces, Air Maxes, Adidas, Blazers, and many more goodies plus many accessories you don’t find very often at Chicago shops.
The most interesting part about Solemates was that the store was 50/50. It had a side for men and a side for women, without catering too much to one or the other. But Solemates doesn’t only sell sneakers. They also have several clothing brands for both men and women. There is also a reminiscing about Solemates that brings you back in early or late 90’s with little retro nick-nacks that brings the culture of hip hop back to life for a split second.
Brian says, “We also added clothing for men and women, which a lot of other stores don’t have: women’s streetwear, or a woman to do the buying for them who knows what women want with the fashion and that’s what we have at Solemates. My wife, Autumn, knows what she’s doing for the ladies”
Autumn,The Lady Connoisseur of Solemates that lays it down for the women says, “Solemates is a haven for couples to come. We have the ladies on one side and guys on the other. So, Ladies, theres no need to sit down while he’s shopping. Theres something here for all couples especially if you have the same interest so from art to accessories to authentic Nike bags”

It’s not saran wrap… it’s shrink wrap. There’s a big difference… but they need to practice how they shrink wrap, because they aren’t doing such a hot job.
Look at the 3rd picture… the 3rd shoe (blue and gray) and 5th shoe (green and white) have that funky lacing job. Isn’t that a tell tale sign of a fake? I know one of the things you’re supposed to look out for with Bapes is that crazy lacing… anyone that knows more than I do want to say something about that?

Something looks wrong with that shop. I dont know it kinda reminds me of my garage, I guess its the black walls and wooden shelves. But the Shoes are hot though, they should carry more clothing to balance the all around look though. Ima need to cop those baby XIs for my son!

OMG SNOOT, if you’re talking about my lace comment, I was just asking a question. If you look up ANY of the guides on how to spot fake shoes they tell you to watch out for lacing like that.

Check out the last picture. I wasn’t trying to make any accusations about this store, just pointing out the lacing. I mean, if they are selling legits, which I have no doubt that they are, they should probably think twice about lacing them that way.
And I still maintain that they need to get better at doing the shrink wrap.

first off it is consignment..for you newbies that means that the person sets the prices not the store. the store is legit ive been there a few times.. only thing i can knock is that there arent many big sizes. but then again its consignment so i cant really complain.
I’ve been in the store a few times and they have some stuff that’s overpriced but majority of the stuff is a good price. To name a few that you newbies probably missed because they aren’t on hypebeast. To name a few that you slept on and probably will continue to sleep on. Sb dunk high wheat/gum ( one of the first sb’s) i think it was 300. Air safari 75. Rose Garden AF 1 175. OG baltoros and lava domes. I copped the notebooks for my bro for 100 no tax before every other store got them. They def have good prices the only things that are overpriced are the things that were overhyped thanks to the internet.
P.S the brooklyn circus clothing is serious and quality. Bought a hoodie from them last year in brooklyn glad to see someone carry it in the chi. Good job solemates

And as for all of you hatin on newbies, your all ****** stupid. Real spit, cuz you all were newbies at one point… what makes you an OG?! Been in the game for a minute?
