п»їI've looked at the reusable bags at the supermarket, but they're all ugly, or have the store's name on them, or both. (I've never liked buying anything that makes me a walking advertisement.) After a few minutes of agonizing about how I should be using them, I always decide I just don't like the bags. So it was great to find the Envirosax bags.
Making the bags look cool is a smart idea, and not just because it's fun. Since they look good, you're going to use them for more than just trips to the grocery store. The size and style makes them useful totes. They are waterproof, so the bags are handy when you just want to keep something dry on a wet day. And the handles can go over your shoulder or hang off a stroller, and the bags are small enough to keep one or two in a stroller pocket.
Overall the attractive, strong, lightweight design seems to have really hit the mark to be useful when opened and compact when rolled up. The handles are wide and reasonably comfortable to carry. Being able to wash them is a plus, too. Most of the supermarket versions don't seem very washable, that's not very nice if you're really going to use them for a long time.
It would be great if they could stand up on their own when you're filling them, but I don't think it's really possible to do that and still have bags as lightweight and compact as these. Squaring off the bottom would make them hard to roll up, and you might even need a plastic insert in the bottom. Since the whole point of reusable bags is to have them with you when you need them, it's worth the tradeoff.
I'm not sure they are as green as they are made out to be. They're not made from recycled plastic. And you could use a lot of bags for the price of these – the breakeven point seems a long way off. So they seem to be laying that on a little thick.
But, you can use them for a lot more than just the grocery store. And they are useful and cool, more than enough to recommend them.
